i thought the dampener was more for long term keeping the thing from shaking apart... and has nothing to do with over HP or track times.

correct?

That's my understanding also.

dampener is to absorb the vibrations from the engine. So if your rotating assembly wasn't balanced perfectly it will absorb that vibration. Long term this can cause the engine to come apart at high RPM. You should be fine with a stock damper but if you want a high quality durable damper then you can pick up a ATI damper. Keep to the stock style damper with rubber ring, stock or ATI.

ATI unit needs to be rebuilt after a time. Fluidampr will last the entire life of your engine.

Whether or not it needs to be rebuilt, its still a better damper. An 800hp+ car is not a reliable daily driver, its a race car. High quality race car parts need to be maintained.

It helps with absorbing engine harmonics and vibrations. Since most of us delete the balance shafts, this will help with this problem. Most cars making this kind of power are weekend warriors so I wouldn't say its a necessity but it does help with bearing life. I put one on my car because I have a shaved 2.4 crank with no balance shafts. I did notice a difference. Im around 650hp and 600tq for whats its worth. The oem only has the small amount of rubber to absorb this. Since you are making 3 times more hp than stock, I would say this should be installed.

Yup. The ATI unit has to be machine-pressed into the crank. So the crank has to be out of the block to do this. I don't plan to open up my crank for at least 60K miles.

From same thread, Mike from AWD had this to say, so.... Yeah.

Bottom line the Evo application ati sucks. Not to mention the install takes 20x as long on a complete motor and cost much more too.

Your domestic examples are meaningless. What works for a BBC and and supra doesn't work well for an Evo as I know 1st hand as I used both. So if you base your opinion off Million dollar prostock cars you'll probably end up with a paperweight if your car actually hauls ***.
