Wastegate problems?
Hey guys,
Recently I decided on tackling an exhaust leak that my car had when I bought it.
One of the bolts in the turbine housing were snapped causing a large leak. I tried everything to get the snapped bolt out but nothing would work.
The only other quick fix option I had at that time was to change the exhaust housing completely. I sourced one from a local friend of mine who had one out of his 03. (My car is an 05 SSL by the way). Despite the hot side being smaller I decided on going with it anyhow just to get the car back on the road.
Immediately after putting the new housing in I noticed it would spool.....well... never.
After some research I found I needed to reset the preload on the actuator. So I did that and it was considerably better, but the car was still very laggy. I dealt with it for a few weeks, but tried adjusting it more today.. to the point that it could not be turned any further.. Still laggy. So from there I pulled the actuator out of the car completely, cut off a few threads so I would have a little more adjustability and put the actuator back on the car. Took it for a ride and still not much better. It hits full boost eventually but it feels laggy and sluggish.
My question is will this 05 actuator just not work correctly with the 03 turbine housing? Did the 05 share the same actuator with the IX turbo? I've read that there are differences between VIII and IX actuators, but I have an 05 so I did not think the actuator was different.
Thanks for the help.

Also worth noting that when I changed the hotside I left everything else in tact. I just pulled out the hotside by removing the c-clamp, The turbo and all other lines weren't touched in the process.
Old thread but did you find out what the problem was? I'm not able to go past 21 psi. Boost leaks have been fixed, I have full bolt ons, 02 dump, walbro 450, arashi 25G turbo, e85 fic 1450, speed density upgraded ic. Tuned to 30 psi but not able to pass 21 psi. Afr's are good, I have the aem afr gauge and aem boost gauge. Any info would be great. I'm trying to eliminate all possibilities. Tia.
