Is it ok to decat a stock Evo 8 FQ300?

Hey guys.

Looking to decat my mates Evo 8 FQ300.
I bought a de cat pipe, doesn't seem to have any sensor ports on it, are there supposed to be any?

Will the decat cause any stability issues and would it run fine on the stock fq300 tune?

Yes it is okay, however its better of doing it properly with turbo back exhaust system, fuel pump, tune, etc. You may run into boost cut, just by going straight pipe..

Stock tune it should be fine, you may run into boost cut possibly during cold times if this is the case & you refuse to tune it put a upgraded fuel pump in it. I presume on your car, you have the a/f sensor & cat sensor, I would think you'd get a CEL...

I asked local tuners who are pretty top in the country and they said:
Hey looking to install a bolt on de cat pipe on a Evo 8 FQ300, howmuch will it be to install this? Will it need to be tuned for it is there supposed to be a oxygen sensor there?

80 or so
doesn't been to be tuned

ok so there doesn't need to be a o2 sensor port on the de cat pipe?

No it's only a cat sensor not a Af sensor

Give it a try without installing the cat sensor, if it doesnt bring any CEL your sweet to go. A/F sensor is required to be installed. By the way you do know the cons of installing a decat pipe right?
- Fumes that can smell
- Loud
- Illegal in many countries, states, etc

If its a NZ new fq300 only 15 in the country i believe. Then nice find!.

It will need a tune to get the most out of the decat pipe when i installed my decat i ran into boost cut in the higher gears 3rd and 4th etc. So best couple this mod with a tune.

Also install it yourself if you are in auckland i'll give you a hand its super simple! you may get an error code about not having a cat just pin the two wires together and error gone ( have to do it on evo 4's)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure my old Evo 5 had a decat and it went through certification and through strict Warrant Of Fitness inspections and passed, just finding out from the previous owner as I forgot whether it was decat.
