Started planning the build and would really like to go with a topmount. What all topmounts for our cars are there? So far I have seen maperformance, sheepey, mynes, fullrace, and fathousefabrication. Are those the only ones offered? Of all these every one either uses a half radiator or requires a turbosmart gate. I however would like to keep the factory size radiator and use a tial gate with bothe the exhaust and wg dump through the hood. Is thisn impossible or just something im going to have to have a shop custom make?

 

the maperformance kit use's the full length radiator . I've never seen the exhaust through the bonnet but i have seen wastegate dump pipe through the bonnet .

 

I run the PSI Top Mount kit with a 6466. Retains all factory components.

Aside from looks, what's the benefit of a top mount? Does getting the turbo higher in the engine bay help with heat dissipation?

Yes sir you are correct. Other then that I cant lie and say that their is any more benefit from a standard turbo. They are unique in the Evo world. Only a hand few of us running around. Everyone jumped on the FF train. I like my AC in the 110+ days in AZ.

What gate is on that setup? Im aware some of the ones I listed use the full size radiator but the ones that do require a turbosmart gate only. That is also an evo 6 radiator will this kit work with an 8 radiator where the neck is in the middle or no?

 

I bought a used PeakBoost TM setup last December. Have wanted a top mount ever since seeing the AFI GT42R built Evo in 2005. Have yet to install it, been ceramic painting all the pieces that are wrapped and leaving the manifold unwrapped to prevent cracking/rust. Need to go SD and get a better oil drain line put together. Have considered selling it a few times though. For the right price....

 

Well we all know what happened to ken lol. I emailed fathouse fab and ben said he would talk with the fabricator on a custom setup. This of course if the manifold im looking for doesnt exist. Does the peakboost topmount meet my specific criteria? Stock rad, ac compatible, and 44 mm mvr gate? If so pm me a price if your willing to sell lol.

 

Just eyeballing that top mount setup, no, the 8 radiator coolant hose would run directly where the compressor housing is. As one of my buddies suggested to me, you could look to have the 8 radiator outlet modified by fabbing a different angle neck and welding it on, but then again Fathouse wanted me to scrap my 8 radiator all together and go with an Evo 7 one where the neck is further over. I would have gone that route if not for the fact my radiator is a brand new Mishimoto and I didn't feel like having to then turn around and try to sell it, ship it, etc.

 

My neck was cut and moved to the far side. Any shop tig welding can do that. I do have the turbo smart WG but I think that was only because that's what he had in stock.
