Evo 8 Timing Belt Auto tensioner Pulley HELP!

So I'm on the final step of torqueing this Pulley to 36 ft-lbs, but when I do the middle portion moves so that the grenade pin does not slide in and out easily. I've positioned it so that when I'm done torqueing it sit on its final position with no luck. I would appreciate a little help since I've done this 5 times. Thank you in advance.

So what I do is tighten the manual tensioner with the two holes and get it so the pin slides in and out.

Then once it's correct with one hand I use the special tool with the two pins, to hold it in place and then use my other hand to torque the bolt

So this is the only way? I've been doing it like this, but in the end, something is not correct the belt is loose or the grenade pin does not slide in and out.

I might be miss reading what You've got happening, but are you just having the pulley turn while ur trying to tighten down the bolt to 36ft-lbs throwing off the tension?

Yes, that's what's happening. I was at it again today, and one of pin on the Jays Racing tensioner tool broke . I've probably done this about 10+ times already. Setting the timing, and when I get to this pulley to wrap it up, I messed it all up and start all over again.

Have you tried to counter the turning by starting at a different position so when its finally torqued its correct? It's kind of a PITA to do it that way. But if you can't keep it from moving you have to do something. I was having that issue with the old tool that just slipped onto a 1/4" drive ratchet. I bought this tool and haven't had an issue since:

Yeah, I was thinking of doing it that way. Thanks for showing me that wrench, I might give it a try.

I can take a picture of the tool I made which has worked perfect for me and a friend (and only cost about 5$ or free if u have stuff laying around) when I get home. I snug the bolt up by hand while holding the tensioner pulley in place. Then continue to use the tool to hold the tensioner as I actually torque the bolt to spec. (Once I get the bolt past handtight, the tensioner never really wanted to spin though).
