Bypass AC with shorter belt

Has anyone ever bypassed their AC with a shorter belt but left the unit on the car. My belt popped off the other day at the track and I think cause my AC pulley seized up at high RPM. I live in AZ so pulling my AC is not an option since I dd my ca.
