uhm......are my pistons in backwards?

after a catastrophic timing event i went to put my head on and noticed that the dots are toward the trans. is this the way or no? i have built tons of engines and the dots usually go to the crank snout. heres a pic.

The larger valve reliefs should be on the intake side.

many early 4g63 engines running evo8 pistons with the cutouts backwards. not a big deal at all as far as cutouts are concerned. . but it is a big deal for evo8 to run them backwards. the wrist pin is offset backwards now. you should pull the pan and flip them.

so the rods are directional?
more so can the rod be right and the piston wrong?

the piston pin is not centered. it is offset to one side. this is done so piston doesnt rock at top dead center. results in a quieter running engine. with the piston installed backwards there would be noise being created since the offset is in the wrong direction. piston would rock more than pistons that dont have an offset. rods are not directional. they can be installed either way.

so whats the down side other that thrust load and noise? frankly i thought these cars were kinda like snowmobiles. they vibrate. are noisy and you smell like exhaust when your done riding them. can i just leave it. or is that considered gross incompetents? ran fine before the tensioner let go.
