Cool New FP Black Turbo option! 100% stock appearing.

Just wanted to share what Michael over at FP built for me.

Let me clearly state that the only reason I did this is because I live in California. Where by law you have to open your hood for a search if the officer wants you to!!! And it has happened to me a few times now. They always threaten the smog referee to me but tell me they are giving me a break by not sending me.

The big difference is that this turbo uses a stock evo 9 compressor housing. This variant has been tested by FP and surge should not be an issue on my 2.0L as long as I don't mash it at 2000 rpm….. Forgot exactly what Michael said but was told as long as I drive like a normal human being it should be ok.

So what it is:

Ball Bearing FP Black Turbo.
Evo 9 stock compressor housing!!!!!
Evo 9 stock turbine housing.
18 psi wastegate.
FP oil feed line from the filter housing.

That is about it! No results for a little while I think I am going to have this ported by Curt Brown. Let me know what you guys think. I believe this may be a big hit for California evos and evos that live in strict smog areas.

that's awesome. Definitely want to see some results.

Where do you live were you get so much heat? I see socal, but just curious. I've been building cars since I was 16 and never once have been to the ref. I lived in North county (Vista, Carlsbad, Encinitas) my whole life. Just curious.

I am looking forward to the results too!

I live in the Coachella Valley which is where Palm Springs is. I have had friends sent to the referee. So it is definitely an issue here .

Have had to open my hood 3 times for police/CHP in the 8 years of owning the evo. Each time I'm told they are giving me a break by not sending me to the ref…

My goal is to have a 100% CA legal appearing car less a downpipe with electric cutout.

I had one of the original jb FP Red's and it made for a great Cali setup. Once I got use to it, I knew how to keep it from surging and it was very managable, curious to see how it works with a FP Black.

I tried to have FP do this with a stock compressor cover for a Red and they wouldn't do it, so I 'm wondering what's changed a couple months later, but either way, this should be cool and l Iook forward to seeing your results.

Ah! That make sense. I was heading out to PGA West to go play golf and I was driving my wife's car. The registration had expired the day before and I was just waiting for my new tags. He could see the fee's were paid but still gave me a ticket! I still had to pay the $25 fee. Well good luck to you!
