How much torque can the 6-speed Transmission handle

Anyone have any input on how much power/tq the six-speed transmission can handle before things start to break... Currently running 510whp/400ishTQ and the tranny seems fine.34k miles... Running a carbonetics twin disc as well.

I want to make a little more power/TQ; and reliably be able to track (road course) the car without much issue.

Note: haven't launched the car since I've had it.

I have read 450 tq is about as much as u should push them stock. The main thing that I have read is that they fail from overheating. And that first gear is actually stronger than the 5 speed so launching isn't what breaks them. It is if you do a lot of track days and get it hot 4th gear goes out. That's just what I've read. If you plan on tracking it I'd suggest a transmission cooler

Do the coolers require a pump for it to be functional??

I recently had a fair bit of work done to my IX so was looking into this, and I read you shouldn't go much over 400tq, 380 if you want to be safe, so if you're already at 400 I wouldn't go much higher unless you can afford to replace the trans if it goes

I was always told 400lbs when I had it in my car. I've since swapped to a UR 5spd, but if you install a trans cooler that should help A LOT. The issue is the 4th gear. From what I remember the 1st-3rd gear is the same thickness as the 5spd, but 4-6 are thinner to get them to fit into the same size case.

There's a lot of discussion on this topic. Failures have been realized with as little as 320wtq. It's heat over time that causes fatigue in the smaller of the gears.

So seeing as I don't track my car and just have the occasional road sprint, does that mean that with any luck the gearbox oil won't get overly hot and its less likely to break?

Just don't do a whole bunch of 4th gear pulls.

it all depends on how its driven. my guess is that it can handle max 450 ft-lbs when driven smoothly and keeping temps under control. 400 is probably more reasonable for true longevity for street driving. abusive shifts and/or hdpe will probably kill it at 300 ft-lbs.
