so the front is just an open diff, or some s@#$ like that.

ok i think i got i now

tranny= penzoil synchromesh (straight out of bottle)

diffs= redline 75 w 90 (straight out of bottle)

no friction modifier additives needed for this, right.

Actually, the transfer case houses the front diff. The center diff is incorporated inside the tranny.

From
Manual transaxle Gear oil API classification GL-4
SAE 75W-85W or 75W-90

Transfer oil Hypoid gear oil API classification
GL-5 SAE90

Rear differential gear oil Hypoid gear oil API classification
GL-5 or higher
• Above −23°C(−10°F): SAE90,
85W-90, 80W-90
• −34 to −23°C(−30 to −10°F):
SAE80W, 80W-90
• Below −34°C(−30°F): SAE75W

It's not uncommon to go with 75W-90 in all three. GL-4 tends to be kinder to the synchros while GL-5 is supposedly better for the bearings. So, another route would be 75W-90 GL-4 in the tranny/center diff and an 80W-90 GL-5 in the transfer case/front diff and the rear diff. I know some synthetic manufacturers incorporate a friction modifier for the LSD in their fluids--you may need to add some for the rear if this is not the case. Otherwise, it's straight out of the bottle.

My owners manual says SAE 90W. Don't think I've ever seen that for sale.

Due to the inherent low-temperature flow of synthetic lubes, 80w-90 is just too small of a spread. In essence, synthetic base stocks are "too good" to be rated like that. Most are going to be 75w-90 or 80w-140.

When choosing an aftermarket synthetic lubricant, one has to second guess what the manufacturer REALLY wanted. With most factory fills being conventional lubes, stepping up to synthetic generally results in better low temperature characteristics with no loss of high temperature viscosity.

That help?

Guess I'm a little gun shy after all the strories back from DSM land about MTL (admitantly lighter than 75W90, but you get the point). I understand the multiweight rating, but why would mitsu call for a SAE90 straight. Are even they a little paranoid about too light a TC oil, especially since I don't even thnk I drained out the supposed .58 quarts that it supposedly holds.

I bought the rear diff oil right from Mitsu. It says it is SAE 90. It is the exact replacement per the owners manuel 8149630 EX. My question is can this be used in the transfer case as well? If not does anyone have th part number from Mitsu for the transfer case oil?

I went with all redline fluids and i could not be any happier, the car shifts as smooths as butter and the t case wine is much less noticeable.

With the tranny and rear diff you have some leeway. For the transfer case don’t use anything other than what the manual states! There are way too many people around here with busted transfer cases. SAE 90 only.

I did MT-90 in the tranny, and Redline 75w-90 in the T-case and rear diff.

Then I read this =P http://buschurforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2500

Looks like I'll be making a trip to Mitsu tomorrow =/

Yeah, I've heard mixed reviews about Redline. I'd take it out and go with stock juice.
