to me, it doesnt look like the fluid has anything to do with it, just looks like some people get a bad batch of evo's with transfer cases??

i am really thinking its just the transfer cases, and not the fluid...look how many other people are using redline with fine transfer cases, and those running redline with broken ones. We cant rule out that its redline, because of one transfer case with the user using redline. Someone needs to do a more in depth study and then we may come to a conclusion.

I agree with you here, and think I might have to call BS on Buschur saying you need to use mitsu fluid. IIRC, the manual only states to use Mitsu specific gear oil in the rear diff and the other two say to use mitsu products or equivalent GL rated stuff. I'd even be willing to stick my neck out and say that the reason for a "special" oil in the rear is bceause it has limited slip additives added to it and that's it.

I just seriously doubt that Mitsu did something so revolutionary in their design and engineering of the Evo drivetrain that would warrant some special blend of oil that only mitsu sells.

yes, and the rated 75w90 redline fluid meets the requirements of both diffs.

Well i have 19,000 miles, lots of launches and track use and after changing to the redline fluids everything was 10 times better than before. I would much rather use the redline than the stock fluids and am glad i did.

Does anyone have the Mitsubishi part number for the SAE 90 transfer case oil? I've called several dealers, and no one has a part number, they just say use 90 weight gl5 gear oil

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the stock fluid in the tranny? Is it the BG syncroshift?
