Camshaft for EVO IX

Hi guys,

Please provide thoughts for a matching/best suited camshaft set for a Mivec 4G63 EVO IX with the following:

- Haltech ECU
- E85 tune
- FP Black turbo
- 2.0L block

The cams that so far seem appealing are; GSC S2 & Tomei 280.

( i assume the GSC R2 are too large for this set up?)

All thoughts welcome.

Cheers,

Stock block?

I have just installed a set of S2 in a stock block car with hks 7460 and I am amazed how nice the car is to drive on low RPM...

I use R2 on my stock block, FP Black, FIC1100 Evo 9 and they work great. Slow speed driveability is awesome once my tune was sorted by Chris at Pure Drive, and you can never say max output is restricted by you cams, that's for sure.

Yeah, S2 seem like the safest bet.

Anyone know whats the limits of the S2?

I love my s2's. Stock block and turbo. They haven't made the daily driveablilty any worse at all, but in stop go traffic you can tell that more aggressive cams would start to get annoying with the low rev lumpiness. These are perfect for my daily driver and weekend toy needs

They don't lope at all with Mivec and there's no extra vibration at all. They work just fine, no issues. The idle is hectic, and I've been told that the R2 are like that with the 9's (Mivec) so if you're after lope I'd look elsewhere.

what sort of power are you pushing with the S2?

My main concern is hoping to find a cam thats 'future proof'

the last thing i would like is for e.g S2 is good for about 470whp and then it becomes a restriction, when i decide to do the bottom end?

So with your setup; FPblack and stock block + R2… what did you end up putting out on the rollers?

could you post your set up?

Ive read that S3 and R2 should not be used with anything under GTX42R & 2.0L displacement.

If I were to change cams I would only put S3 on the car, currently mine has Kelford 272. I installed a set on a FP Green/OEM block car and it feels great. Makes 500whp on VD with e85.

I can't vouch for their limitations tbh, I just wanted some cams that would give my DD a bit more oomph without messing with how it drives. Once I get my new EM and intercooler fitted and my map adjusted, I'm hoping for 430-450bhp on pump fuel but only time will tell
