Need some catch can advice

hey guys bare with me here...I got my car with a "greddy" catch can installed which is think is eBay stuff and it's probably completely empty inside (no baffle etc)...I'm on aem ems, evo 9 turbo at 25psi, and all supporting mods...it is connected from driver side vent to can and other side hose is just dangling not connected to anything...a buddy of mine who is an evo mechanic in town said the catch can is not even worth running unless I do -10an fittings and run a can to pcv and driver side vent...he said to remove can and just leave port open or put a little filter on it...I've always ran catch cans on my turbo cars...should I install a port on my custom intake and run can from driver side vent to can and from can to intake or should I just put a little filter on the vc port? I know I know...search is what most will say and I did but never get a straight answer...what do you guys think ?

Your buddy is correct in that it doesn't help to relieve the crankcase pressure. Only when your can is pulled by vac (intake) that your can is helpful. I would do what he said and also stuff the can full of stainless steel wools.
If your car doesn't have blow-by then just stick a filter on it.

well, he said a local fabricator that does all his projects can fab a catch can for me and install -10an fittings on the valve cover for about $250...he said he would remove the pcv valve and run a line from pcv port to catch can and the other side of can to driver side port of valve cover...but damn $250 for a catch can? geez...i could open up my catch can and put some steel wool in there and put a fitting on the intake but doesnt that get the turbo, intercooler, etc full of oil?

$250 is what I'm paying for my -10 AN fittings WITH a freshly powder coated Valve cover, negotiate like a boss.

that's a bad *** how to...thank you...but I really don't want to go through this...I should be somewhere in the 340 hp range or so...can't I just buy like a moroso catch can with the filter on top, remove pcv, install a fitting in it's place, plug the intake manifold, connect a line from pcv port to catch can and the other side of catch can to driver side port on vc? Will that not work good enough as to help the engine breath?

That is how I and numerous others run our setups. Catch can to driver side and pcv side and cap intake port and intake manifold port. I use to have it connected between the intake and driver side vent only and caught barely anything over months and months. I recently found that the pcv was nothing but a boost leak so I deleted It and ran both sides to can and vacuum capped the intake and manifold and caught 100x more junk. Some will say to be sure to run vacuum but I feel if any line runs back to the intake your risking still getting some oil in the system.

guys since i made this thread i have not had time to do anything about the catch can...i would really like the -10an fittings but the whole idea of removing the baffles is holding me back because im afraid the after making threads for screws on the baffles they will back out even with loctite...i can use my ****ty greddy can and stuff it full of steel wool and connected to driver side vent and to intake but will that do anything? i mean, is it better to do this or just put one of those little filters on the driver side fitting and cap the intake?

i don't know if this will help but i am in the same situation as you. but the drain plug fell out of my crappy can and was just plain not working. so i tapped the stock driver side nipple to 1/2 npt and put a 1/2 hose barb on it. left the stock pcv one in place as my valve still works good. what i have noticed is that i stopped pushing oil out of my oil cap as well as blowing the dip stick out. it made a crap load of shavings which is spooky to clean out but i am thinking of doing the same to the pcv port. running both to a catch can with a breather on top of it.
