Car bucking on/off throttle.

Before you say anything, this isn't about the dv flutter/compressor surge issues. I fixed that when I destroyed my turbo.

I'm having another issue just driving around town. If I let off the throttle when approaching traffic, the car starts to buck. Very similar to driving at low speeds in a parking lot while in first gear. Only difference is that it does this every time I'm letting off or getting on the throttle (any gear). Sometimes I'll need to ride the clutch a little to adsorb the movement. From a stop, accelerating and going through the gears normally or full boost, doesn't recreate the symptoms.

Someone mentioned motor mounts. I have aftermarket urethane/aluminum front and cam side mounts. The others are stock.

I'm looking at 91k on my Evo 8.

I'm using an ACT HDSS with Fidanza lighten flywheel.

According to Evoscan, my tps is 12.9% at idle and 99.6% wot. Which I know isn't perfect but I figured .4% wasn't a huge deal. I haven't pulled the tps to check for a dead spot.

New ngk copper plugs gapped at .022 with spoolin' up cop.

I think that is it for relevant mods, complete list on the link in my signature.

I hate my car for how it drives in the same conditions as you. Parking lots trying to go 5mph or 10mph are the absolute worst.

I'm getting re-tuned shortly and hoping that will clear up driveability issues I'm having

Same here. I absolutely dread parking lots or situations where I can't get out of 1st gear in a hurry. Speed bumps are bad too. My front motor mount was jacked up when I took my car in for my build so they replaced it and my bucking lessened once I got it back with the new mount. I'm thinking upgrading the side mounts may help too and putting a stiffy on the engine to stop vibration up there will help all around.

It's not necessarily that problem but that is annoying. I've learn to just accept the parking lot dilemma. Although, dealing with it in 25-45mph stop and go traffic all the time is frustrating and embarrassing. Yea, I'm a little self-conscience but holy hell, it makes me look like I just started driving a stick yesterday.

Ever thought about changing the coils, believe or not they take a lot of abuse, they sit on top of the engine and fry everytime you drive your car

Full throttle pulls, and many miles later something is going to give..
When was the last time you cleaned your MAF, that can cause it as well

Or I hate to say it , but your head gasket is giving out, coolant is getting past which will interupt the spark igniting the fuel

Or the engine is losing compression in one of the cylinders which also aids in the combustion process, I hope this helped a lil bit, I have a 05 myself with many more miles, peace..

Don't tell me that! Say something like, "oh it's a simple $20 fix".

Interested to know how you fix, I have the same problem. It lessened for me when I switched back to a stock 9 DV, but its still there just not as violent.

Check your fuel pump, clean your MAF, get your injectors serviced

FYI: does this happen more when the cars reaches operating temp or when the car is cold, log the car and replay the log so you can see when, where, who, what, and why.
change the plugs, run .24 gap to see if it improves (I dont know your boost level)

Moral of the story is:
Nobody is going to help you, dont be afraid to try on your own, the possibilities are endless as to why the car is behaving this way.
Start eliminating from easiest to the hardest.
Me personally, in this order I swapped in new plugs, still bucking, new wires, still bucking, new fuel pump, still bucking, new coils from the DEALER, problem solved..
I hope this helped you, take care

Coils make no difference unless yours were shot. They either work or they don't.

Coils are not causing the issues that we are describing

Just sharing my story Mr. Demon
I had nobody to help me, I kept getting the run arounds, it could be this it could be that.
Trust me if I didnt have to spend all of that money, I wouldn't have done it!!
It's embarrassing when the car acts up like a wild horse, I was fed up, so I did something about it.
This is my scenario, that is what worked for me. 05 VIII 170plus on the clock, bone stock, never been tuned.

Mr. Thore, process of elimination, I'm just sharing my story with you and what worked for me, I hope you get it fixed ASAP so you can drive your car the way you want to.
As for me, I ordered a fp setup, my first mod, I got a zephyr, just need a downpipe, fwiw swap your stock coils back in, or borrow somebodies just to see if the condition improves, take care..

I appreciate the input. The weather is suppose to be half way decent out tomorrow, so maybe I'll finally get a chance to log or check the engine bay over.

I'll be sure to post updates here.

Does everyone having this problem have an aftermarket intake/maf setup?

I'm using a metal ETS intake but it didn't make much difference.

The best thread I've been able to find, that describes my issue, is one that llDemonll has posted in before.
