Wow, my 3586 on a 2.0 spools faster than that, 20psi at 4600rpm in 3rd gear.

Sure...it doesn't match the performance of a $2000 HTA turbo...but for $1100 I wouldn't expect it to. I wouldn't waste my money on the BB version and I wouldn't touch the P-trim based ones, but $1100 for a Garrett turbo that can reliably go over 700WHP while still having decent drivability....hell yeah.

Based on experience with a VERY similar turbo on a 2G FWD...that setup is lacking. I was seeing 4200RPM for full boost in 3rd and roughly 450WHP at 20psi on 91octane. Ported head and 2G intake, equal length manifold and 3.5" exhaust with a decent FMIC.

You want drivability go with a smaller turbo.

Is there any truth to the garret bb center cartridge replacement policy if everything is stock on the cartridge they will sell you another one for 500$? I dont want to replace a bunch of lines to go gtW if my gt/gtx craps out.

The engine was built by a different shop 10-11 years ago. I am reasonably certain the head is stock, cams are unknown, and it still has a stock 2G intake manifold on it which is not the best combo.

Really dont think so, but maybe it is. Try and write them. But youll get a "cheap" replacement if the one you have is damaged in the bearings.

I think Lithium is right , these are an extension of the larger frame T4R ball bearing family with billet compressors . Garrett still lacks the will to develop newer turbines and keeps rolling out the dinosaurs .
I'd like to see Garrett try some of those compressors on the GT BB cartridges with GT30 and GT35 turbines . Only guessing but the 76mm (9 blade 58T ?) compressor may make an interesting "GTW3076R" with the ported TO4S comp housing .

Is it really worth it?

For the people who are looking forward to buying this please take this message into consideration. The Gtw3884r is really good for the price, but a bit too good. I was drawn toward the turbo because "Garrett" 👍 This turbo is an basically an upgrades TO4z, It has the similar ind. and exd. specs of the compressor wheel and turbine wheel. It just has an "upgraded ,newly designed" 10-blade compressor wheel with a ported compressor housing so don't really expect crazy results!

Gtw 3884r

The new Gtw 3884r compressor wheel flows more and has greater response than the older T04z. I saw a Gtw 3884r (6765) on an evo 9 and it made about 30 hp gains with the same boost pressure set for the Gtx3582r, yet it only spools 200rpm later but hits harder 👍. Higher boost should really wake the turbo up approx. 35+ psi

I'd estimate the GTW3884R is a solid 50whp more than the GTX3582R. Maybe 75whp. You give up spool and response for that top-end power.

Exactly!! The newly designed compressor wheel and flows more air than the "old T04z wheel" and the dual ceramic bb cartridge help this be more responsive. It's very spool happy.

GTW is oil cooled only.

Actually they are all water cooled, or at least the largest 3. Not sure why press release said they were oil cooled only.

Ok. Do you have any links to anyone selling watercooled gtw´s? Garrett´s website says all gtw are oilcooled.
