Question Swoosh sound

Can one get this sound with a stock Evo by just changing out the stock air intake and filter?

I rode in another guys car and he had the K&N typhoon filter system and had that swoosh between shifts.

I love that sound

Anybody else get the swoosh with this mod?

Its called either a blow off valve or a pop off valve. Do some searching.

the stock BOV can make that sound too... but not as loud if you get aftermarket BOV or Dump Valve/ Diverter Valve

Score, thats what I thought as well, but the guy had no aftermarket pop/blow off valve on his car

Yellowfever, you just confirmed what the guy told me, so I am going to order me the K&N typhoon.

So a after market BOV with the K&N typhoon would work well do you think guys?

Any open element filter for the EVO will be louder than stock, and you will hear the stock BOV "Whoosh".. Just be aware that changing the filter could affect the performance of the car, most of the time for the better, but in some cases it can hurt performance slightly since it can alter the airflow sensor's readings. Do a search, and research your options and make the choice after you have all the info.

An aftermarket BOV (Venting to the atmosphere to make that WHOOSH sound) has lead to drivability and stalling issues on our cars.. do a search for that too..

The whoosh sound is from the aftermarket filter.. the pssst sound is from the BOV... and if you have both.. you get the whoosst sound

Thanks guys for your input.

UFO, you got my attention with the BR filter making that swoosh. I plan on getting stage 1-4 with those guys anyway.

The K&N looks awsome with the carbon sheild around the filter. I wonder which gains the most power and most benefit in power?

Do you guys know?

Don't rely on the filter to gain much.. the gains are usually because of the filter confusing the MAF sensor (the airflow sensor thats connected to the filter box) Once you add additional aftermarket parts (Like an S-AFC or Flash) the gains seen specifically by the filter are negated..

The filter really isn't necessary, its only really necessary in the Buschur setup because their intake pipe relocates/shifts the MAF sensor in a way that prevents you from re-using the stock airbox.

Several tuners are making significant gains without removing the stock airbox, and there's some talk that the stock airbox is good to levels well over 300whp..

Just know what your getting into, if your only interested in the "Sound" then do whatever floats your boat. But just be aware of your options.

Does anybody know if the apex-i type cone filter will make the sound too and not affect the idle/maf sensor? I do love that damn woosh sound also.
