stock air box vs open filter

Hey guys,

I bought an evo off of auction, previous owner cut open air box top cover and removed the snorkel that guides the cold air into the filter. I am worried the filter is only getting hot air from engine bay.

My options are: get snorkel and air filter box or install open air filter

I am inclined to just install an open air filter since I prefer the way it sounds. Looking for some guidance - are there any open air filters I can install onto the stock air intake pipe that won't make the car stall on idle and that don't require a proper tune? If so, any recommendations?

get the snorkel

Your getting hot air from the engine, no cold air is passing through. He should of left the snorkel on there if the cold air filter is inside the hood. You could consider getting a cold air intake that runs to the ground it will get better air flow from the front bumper vents. I got the injen intake and they have the aem one as well I heard that's good. I have a injen waterproof cover on mine so it won't get really wet when driving in the rain.

yeah, but I want to fix it in a less intrusive way

so either install another air box that isn't cut open with the snorkel

or

install an open air filter that can be installed on stock air intake pipe that does not cause any stalling issues
which leads to my question: is there such a filter? cause I haven't had any luck finding one

You have to get the snorkel cut open so the air will go through it looks ugly in my opinion. So here's a open air filter on eBay the same one I got on my car.

I had to take my front bumper off to install it I think it's easier that way but other people figure out how to install it from the driver side just removing the wheel covers. I think if you reinstall the oem intake some bolts might be missing from the intake the previous owner had on. So keep in mind to see what you need to put back on if you want the stock intake.

yep, this is the part i'm going to buy

but I also have to get a new air box, that's why I want to try and get an open air filter and avoid getting another air box that way
