Install day today!
Install day today!
Special thanks to Garrett and the World One Performance crew, and compliments to Perrin Performance. I spent a decent part of my day installing my Perrin Front Mount Intercooler, Perrin Intake, Perrin Boost Tube, and Perrin Short Shifter.
My nine year old son and I began the project today at around 2PM. My son also help me install my Perrin Turbo Back Exhaust a few weeks ago. Anyways, the Perrin products are pretty much the sort of thing you expect from Perrin. Everything was top quality and clean as a whistle. We got started on the front bumper first, but ended up doing the FMIC, Boost Tube, and Intake all at the same time. Nothing was really difficult, and all the parts fit very well.
Here are a few of the snags we had.
1) The clamp on the turbo inlet was facing down. I could not find a way to get up under there to loosen it. I finally dremmeled the clamp off carefully and replaced it with a new one on my Perrin Inlet.
2) The backing on the inside of the air box broke while I was unbolting the MAF. The tab on the inside was free to spin, so it took some time to wedge something in there to hold it.
Those type of Murphy issues were the only ones we encountered. The rest was smooth sailing. We finished around 6PM. We took our time and I was explaining to my son what every piece was and it's function. Then we took it for a test drive.
Impressions:
All three products, coupled with my TBE made a significant difference. These are not really big horsepower items, but they really made a decent change.
The car feels like it revs more freely throughout the RPM band. The tach moves faster for sure. The top end was the biggest improvement. She really pulls hard! I live in an area where it is pretty hot these days, so the Intercooler was doing it's job quite well. When you install a few parts all at once, it is hard to pin point what really made the difference, but I feel that it was the IC. Who knows, the intake is likely good for a few, as is the boost tube. Man the IC core is HUGE!
The car also sounds a bit different. You can hear the turbo sucking in air and whistling during spool up, then of course, you hear the whoosh that so many love.
Well, at midnight, I was sitting with my nine year old, my six year old, and my wife, when my older son and I decide that there is nothing good on the TV and that we should go ahead and install the short shifter. That sucker was a breeze. With me teaching as I worked, it only took around an hour and a half. I have to say that the Perrin Short Shifter is amazing! I have not tried another brand on an EVO, but I really hate the stock shifter on this car. My STi blows it away in that department. Anyways, with the SS installed, WOW!!! What a difference!!! I definatly like driving my EVO more now than before. The position and the throw are adjustable, so I got it all right where I wanted it. Crisp short shifts, finally!
So.... I had a good day.
Tomorrow... Espelir Springs! It never ends....
Thanks again to Perrin for making such great stuff, and to Garrett and World One for always being there for me and both of my cars!
