Help with No valve to piston clearence after Kelford 272 install
Hi
Im looking for some ideas on a problem post kelford install on my 2003 Evo VIII
So I have an evo 8 that I bought a long time ago
I'm in process of a build of my car with the stock block in and one block out that I am putting new internals in
I have the new kelford cams in my stock motor now but.....
When I am at TDC I noticed a slight binding when turning cam
I immediately let off turning the gear and grabbed my flashlight
Looked in the number 1 exhaust port and sure enough....when I turned it again I saw the valve making contact with the piston
So all I can really think is
1. I was not informed of this car having the need for milled headwork
But it does
2.Longer valves were installed and I wasn't informed
3.#1 rod has stretched causing excessive piston clearence
Other than that I can't think of anything
Does anyone have any other theories?
I'm just debating whether or not to re install stock cams if there isn't an easy solution before New motor is done

Did you degree the cams with a degree wheel? This issue you are facing is odd. I have the 272 high lift kelford cams in a conventional 2.0 build and have no issues other than a slightly rough idle.
Timing marks have to be off. Either that or your lifters are stuck all the way extended. I usually bleed lifters before throwing in new cams. Post pics of all your timing marks.
Sorry for the no update
But I just pulled 14hrs yesterday resolving the issue
I had already checked my timing and degreed cam twice so I was a little frustrated
So I pulled the head and clayed it
There was no interference
So I put it back together and found out
I just wasn't used to the slight added force to
Spin the assembly due to the added lobe hight
I just decided to spin past what I though was the binding and it spun though
I was just being to cautious with the extra resistance
