Just drove it so i'll get you the numbers in a few. Tried with the cams retarded 2.5 degrees and same sh*t.

sorry its been a while since I played with cam gear timing from taller blocks. but I got there from calculations. and my quotes earlier where incorrect.

the 2.4 block is 6mm taller. so if we lift head by that 6mm the cam belt has to roll the gears 6mm forward. so its simply a matter of calculating how many degrees that 6mm equates to. the gears are 144mm diameter. multiply that by 3.1416 gives outer circumference =452mm then divide that by 48 teeth = 9.42mm travel per tooth. so with doing nothing but letting stock gears move forward 6mm that would equate to 4.77 degrees advance. (7.5 degrees x 6 / 9.42) and if you were to retard the gears by one tooth then they would be 2.72 degrees retarded. ( 7.5 degrees x 3.42 / 9.42)

now that you have adjustable gears you can simply advance and retard gears 3-4 degrees at a time and see if spool time responds. if not look elseware to speed spool. advancing gears speeds spool and reduces high rpm power. retarding would do the opposite. playing with lobe separation also has an effect. increase separation of lobe centers for faster spool. increased separation reduces valve overlap and traps exhaust gas in manifold for faster spool.

A couple degrees of cam timing isn't hurting boost threshold by over 1,000 rpms. I would remove and inspect the turbo...

You did not answer my question about the turbo. Was this a new turbo, or the exact same one you used on your old engine? Why did you replace your old engine? Did it sustain any damage? Again, one of the candidates for explaining your problem is your turbo.

Sorry about that. The turbo only has about 4-5k miles on it, yeah it was on the stock motor. No the stock motor wasn't damaged, I just wanted to upgrade. I'll take the turbo out this week and look it over again. Thanx everybody.
