Was 494 now 424.X on Vishnu's Dyno

This should have posted after our dyno runs at Shiv's last Tuesday....and BEFORE the 10.6x run at Sacto on Saturday AM (3-20-2004).

We took the EVO8 that made 494hp in San Diego to Vishnu and after tuning we got 424.X HP to all 4 wheels.

We baselined my street tune (several Mustangs on the freeway later ) on narrow band (stock) sensor and started out at 20 psi and 11 degrees of timing. 1200 degrees on the EGT and pig fat at 10.7 to 10.9 A/F. 325hp. OK not bad for
91 Kalifornia craptane gas and never lift

With the benefit of wide band on the dyno I leaned out the fuel map at 20psi to 11.0's I only got 20 more HP. Somewhere around 345hp. Adding timing only gave us 12 hp for every 2 degrees.

BTW. The boost lines and the APEx boost controller were working in the opposite of what we expected. The boost lines were reversed at some point and I never got to address this issue. We turned up the boost to see what would happen...

At 31 psi we acheived 424 hp and the A/F was very conservative at low 11's. As peak torque tapered off we leaned it to 12.0's and the timing was under 20 degrees.

We backed down to 29.5 psi and made around 410 hp. This was on C16. It was the SAME dyno (made in Australia) as the one in San Diego, but Shiv thinks the offset was not realistic. Shiv's dyno was set to "1". I tend to agree with his assesment, but in my opinion I still think Shiv's dyno reads maybe 10 to 20hp low.

Overall, I learned quite a bit from Shiv about these motors as I sat shotgun on probably 19 to 22 pulls tuning on the Autronic. It was a great experience and only adds to my growing library of fuel and timing maps

The EVO has recently run 11's at Sacramento Raceway, and posted a best of 10.6x.

I think it has to be somewhere in the middle. As our dyno might read on the high side and Shiv's dyno on the low side.

Good stuff.

If I could ask, what kind of EGT's were you seeing tuned on C-16 at 12.0:1 AF?

My map transitions from a very cool zone of 1300 degrees. As RPMS increase to 12.0 A/F the pyrometer reads 1400. At the track the owner reports 1450 to 1480.

When you achieved 494 was the car as optimally tuned (timing, boost, C-16, A/F) as it was at Vishnu? If not, then Shiv's dyno doesn't read 70 hp lower as listed above, but closer to 100+ lower.

The 494 was not quite optimally tuned due to the wastegate hose issue. You can see from our orginal graph. We just started feeling comfortable with the low boost street gas 91 octane tune. We drained the tank by fitting a hose to the return line and filled up with C16. As the boost started to climb I started to increase timing and lean out the map. We couldn't resolve our waste gate issue in the time alotted and called it.
So, it's more like 70 lower.

There are different ways to setup the dyno, you can have the dyno read 600 with a stock Focus....well maybe, but you get my point. Dyno numbers don't mean everything unless they are compared with the "same" settings and track numbers need to be backed up.
