Hey guys,

I recently swapped a used longblock into my evo and noticed the balance shaft was out of phase vibrating the entire car. I went ahead and fixed it, but it leaves me with a question.

Assuming that the previous owner/ mechanic didn't know what they were doing and the car was driven for 30,000 miles with the balance shaft out of phase, could there be any damage to the motor? Is the only side effect the vibration of the car?

This motor was on stock injectors and stock intake and exhaust manifolds so I'm sure it wasn't making too much power. It has 93,000 miles on it and cold compression was 160, 155, 160, 160.

I have a hard time believing the previous owner would drive around that way for 30K. How fresh does the belt look?

 

That's what im thinking to. The belt looked like it was about half life or a bit more. My tuner explained that it shouldn't have done any harm at all, it would just be very annoying. I would have to agree haha.

The way kids are driving on bump stops with straight pipes these days, I'm willing to believe someone would be oblivious enough to drive forever with a balance shaft out of phase hahaha.
