Donkey Power Injection 1200cc Review
Donkey Power Injection 1200cc Review
After having my car tuned and driving it for a while, I think it’s worth sharing some information about the injectors I chose, given how DPI is a smaller name in the community and the experience I had with them.
To note, before I had:
- Walbro 255
- Stock Injectors
- Bolt-Ons
- Custom Tune
- Pump 93
And now I have:
- Walbro 255
- Donkey Power Injection 1200cc
- Bolt-Ons
- FP 71HTA
- Custom Tune
- Pump 93
I’ll break down my experience with these injectors vs. the stock ones in a few categories, and also leverage my personal experience with FIC and ID injectors (1000cc and 1050cc SP respectively) to compare with the Donkey Power units.

I bought The Donkey Power Injection 1200cc “Atomizer” injectors because of their EV14 base, EV1 plug that goes right into the stock harness, and because these should give me plenty of Injector for my needs. The injectors came packaged with a flow sheet. Woo! The best way to order is to contact Donkey Power first, they helped me pick out the right size and also have multiple sizes up to a 2000cc that I don’t think is listed on their website, and their larger injectors are TRULY good with all fuels, unlike some that have seal swelling problems when running E85, even though they are advertised to be E85 safe.
Customer Service/Packaging/Install
After only a few years of really modding my cars, I have really come to appreciate aftermarket companies that have good customer service. I have been in/heard of WAY to many situations where there is a major or minor issue with a product and the company responsible either tells the customer to get bent or drags their feet resolving the problem. The guys at Donkey Power Injection have always been really helpful and responsive when it came to me choosing injectors and having questions. I have no doubt they will stand behind their work (they modify, test, clean, etc. all of their injectors IN HOUSE) which is great considering I have too many friends who have been told by a certain “Dynamic” Injector company essentially that the fault could never lie with their injectors because they are perfect.
Tuning
I had the car tuned by Doug at DBW Motorsports in Georgia. For those who don’t know, Doug is probably the most experienced Evo tuner in the state, and was the tuner who brought TopSpeed its fame. Doug told me that the DPI injectors were very easy to tune with for part throttle and that he was impressed with how they performed in general over the course of the tune.
Full Throttle
In my experience, any competent injector does great at WOT, this is the easy part for them. My stocks, FICs, IDs, and DPIs all did great. As long as the sizing is right you’re good to go.
Part Throttle
Part throttle, around town driving has always been a make or break point for the injectors I have owned. After installing the DPI injectors and tuning the car, I was really surprised to feel an improvement in light throttle driving. The car is noticeably more responsive to moderate throttle inputs and feels considerably more ‘lively’ around town. The FIC and ID units I have experienced (on my previous car) were good, and left me happy, but when I changed to DPI injectors (on my previous car again) this was the most noticeable change. I’m not sure if it has to do with how they modify the injectors, which base injector is used (EV14 in the case of both of my DPI sets), or how they match them, but the main reason I keep using Donkey Power injectors is how great they drive during part throttle, low duty scenarios.
Starting/Idling
When it comes to the Evo, I could not tell a difference between the DPI and stock injectors idling/starting. Hot and cold starts, idling in all conditions, they were the same. No issues or anything noteworthy to say. However, on my previous car (Turbo K Honda) I had the notorious ID hot start issue, where the car would be hard to start and idle if it was turned off and then turned back on within a few minutes. The FICs I had and the DPI injectors both eliminated this frustrating problem. I’m not sure if Evos with ID1000s do this, but it was a notorious issue on Hondas.
Gas Mileage
After Talking with the DPI guys about what injectors was best for me, one of the things they told me is that I was likely to see an increase in fuel economy because of the improved atomization of these injectors….sure lol. Honestly I didn’t believe or expect to see any difference, especially because I was adding a 71HTA to my car in place of the stock turbo. But after 1000 miles of driving…I have seen a consistent ~2-3mpg increase, so it looks like they were right haha. I drive my car in a very repeatable fashion and I averaged 18mpg on the stock injectors (with a tune, so not the pig rich factory tune) and after putting the DPI 1200cc on I have been averaging about 21mpg. I’ll take it lol.
Conclusions
The combination of an Injector that performs great at part throttle and gives the headroom I need at WOT, combined with a price that is often less than what I was quoted for competitors and top-notch customer service has kept me going back to DPI, and makes them a great option to consider for Injectors.

I wonder how they would compare to an FIC Hi-Z injector. The hot start issue is why I went with FIC's over ID's. I've been seeing some good reviews of these DPI's pop up on Facebook and Instagram and was kind of wondering if they were sponsored reviews, or legit. You definitely have gone through enough injectors to make a good comparison lol.
Glad you're happy with them!

Thanks man! I just enjoy writing reviews and thought these would be a worthy product. People tend to not have a lot of feedback for injectors, and personally I'm a little tired of people just assuming IDs are the best because a shop that is a vendor for them says so. Based on what knowledge I have, these should be every bit as good as an FIC high-z. DPIs EV14-based injectors have been great, I recommend them to friends and they have all had great experiences with them
