Buschur Rear Differential Mounts Review

Hello Gents,

I have not seen any threads that really got down to the details about these rear diff mounts so I will report my findings by doing a thorough review. Later on I will add their mustache bar and update this review.

For the record, I am NOT a Buschur Bandwagoner as some of you have come to call people. I respect his work and look forward to running Buschur parts, but my car is a big mix of parts from several high end companies. In fact, this will be my first Buschur part!

On to the story...

My Evo IX is approaching the 100,000 mile mark. During 50,000 of those miles the car was making more than 400hp/trq. As a result, the stock rear diff bushings have been eating a woopin for a long, long time. The stock bushings are so bad, that I can make the rear diff buck using just the throttle, NOT EVEN during hard shifts.

I have learned to shift in such a way as to prevent this from happening, but driving around with a loosely supported rear diff just sucks.

After looking for a quick and cheap solution, I decided to give the Beatrush rear diff bushings a try as several people on here have had great results with them. They didn't work and the horrible buck was still there.

And then came these...

From a Billet block to Aluminum Perfection

Sunshine shots

The thickness of these bushings is confidence inspiring. This is why the noise level from these mounts is so little. Very daily driver friendly.

Here you can see the Grade 8 sleeve inside the <br/>urethane bushing.

Seems to be very well manufactured!

Mirror like finish, you can actually see my hands in the right mount.

Again, another detail shot. Trying to get up close and personal with these.

Here you can really see the detail that goes into the CNC work. No cracks, inclusions, or runs.

Grade 8 washers to place on your rear diff bolts before you slide them through the bushing sleeves.

As a result, I will be installing these today and reporting my findings! Stay tuned for an update!!

Ok guys, results are in and I am VERY pleased!

These things tightened the hell outa my cars diff! Where before it was bangin around after every shift, now it is settled, planted, and refined.

I noticed very, very, little noise difference and I have one of the quitest exhaust on the market. Shifts are now much smoother and the throttle feels more responsive. I didn't know a single part could change the way a car behaves this much.

Thank You Buschur Racing for an outstanding product and design! I will be saving for your mustache bar next.

Install pictures:

What a difference! !

Buschur Racing Mustache Bar Overview

UPDATE!!!!

Ok guys,

I said that I was buying the Buschur Mustache bar and doing a review of that too so here it is! Again, I couldn't find ANY close up pictures of this new version of the mustache so I felt that it would do evom justice to see what's in store:

I just received the package today so I will be installing this weekend. After that my rear diff should not be able to move, AT ALL.

On to the pictures:

Top Side View

Top Side View # 2

Close up of the sides where the factory mustache bar bolts would pass through.

These are solid bushings so I do expect some added noise once the car is moving.

Smooth face. This side rests up against the rear diff.

Welded on both sides for maximum strength.

Close up of the main side support welds

Bottom Weld

Good close up of another main weld.

From this angle you can see the thickness of the steel being used from the hole.

Steel follows through the entire length of the hole, not just at the flat face.

The powder coating is really thick on this bar!

On to the install!

This isn't really a how to more than it is a review, but i'll help you guys out.

1. Drop axle back exhaust
2. Remove sway bar mounts and swing them out of the way. ( 6 bolts )
3. Remove Mustache bar bolts. 3 on the Diff cover, two bolt/nuts on the sides.
3. Place a jack under the sub frame and remove the 8 bolts holding it in place. There are 3 on the passenger side and 3 on the driver side. Then there are two in the middle of the car.
4. Lower the jack slowly. This should give you enough room to swap out the bars.
5. Reinstall everything in the reverse order.

Tips:

I ended up lowering my entire diff in the process to make it easier to install the three bolts supplied with the bar on the diff cover and jacked the entire assembly back up as one unit.

When you are placing the new bar into the sub frame, do not try to force it into place by hitting it with a hammer like a monkey. It will simply slip into place if you start it on both sides and find the proper insertion angle.

David Buschur and his team designed this bar with VERY close tolerances so don't be surprised if it does not look like it will fit at first. Just be patient and it will fall into place.

Old bar out

Torn stock bushing. Such a miserable effect on the car.

Look at the difference here.

Starting the bar on the left.

Starting the bar on the right

The new bar in place looking great!

Keep track of the position of each bolt. One of these bolts is very very long. Don't loose it as I doubt it is easy to find.

Test drive results:

The diff cannot move at all and gear changes are even smoother than when it was just the side diff supports. Now that I know what these parts will do together, i'm glad I installed them.

There is no extra noise on acceleration unless you are in boost ( loading the diff). There is some extra noise during decel above 55mph, but it's not louder than most of your exhausts anyway. It is still very daily driver friendly.

PM me for any further questions!

Good luck fellas.

No problem! Yes they are a direct swap. I just unbolted my exhaust from the back, removed the mustache bar bolts, and lowered the diff slowly after removing the side mount bolts.

As for price and vendor, my girlfriend bought them for me for Christmas haha.

those bushing looks exactly the Energy suspension bushings i just installed on my rear diff (i took the AMS solid diff bushing and mustache delete out). so if you don't want the weight reduction of the aluminum mount, you can just spend $50 for the bushing and get a shop to press out the old ones.

i put the stock mustache bar back in the car to add weight for my race class.

the pics are nice btw.

I've got the same bushings in my built 700wph evo with the BR Mustache bar delete, no problems or complaints except some mild noise and vibration.

Thank you sir,

I am back and forth between just pressing new bushings into my stock mustache bar or getting the Buschur bar. I'm afraid because the Buschur bar appears to have solid bushings on both ends.

What kind of noise increase and decrease did you experience when you added and then removed the Buschur bar for the stock one ?

I'm confused. Ams sells mustache bar eliminator kit which includes diff supports.so it's ok to drive without that bar?
