Another "what turbo should I get" discussion

I'm gearing up for an overhaul of the evo this year. I've owned the car for almost 6 years now, which if you know me is the longest I've ever owned a car....ever! So I'd like to spend some time and money to fix up this car as it is much needed. The majority of the cost and time here will be body work and paint. The car is beat up and needs some love, so it WILL look nice.

Other than body stuff, I'd like to pull EVERYTHING off the car and make some upgrades. The head was just rebuilt, and I plan to keep the bottom end as - is for now since a rebuild is costly and un-needed right now. I'm not building a race car (as much as I'd like to). But to the same end, I'd like to upgrade the turbo while I'm doing all this work. I don't need 800 awhp, and I want to keep costs low. To that end, I've been looking at the FP turbos that are bolt-on replacements. I was just reading about the 71HTA (http://www.forcedperformance.net/mer...e=Lancer-Turbo) that seems like a solid deal. But I wanted to see what you guys thought and if you had any insights. I'm shooting for like 400awhp on e85 (because they have that **** here in IL!).

You should get an ht3b, make sure it's a t6 flange though. Wouldn't want it to be too small.

Lol, I was kidding. That's a huge 76mm diesel turbo. The 71hta will spool like stock, and make more power than what you're hoping for a dynojet.

I'm doing the same thing right now trying to figure out what turbo to go with. One thing I would recommend is talk to a tuning shop that specializes in evos and tell them what you want to accomplish. They should be able to put you in the right direction.

Those turbo's are overkill for 400whp on E85.

Especially for $2,499! That's what I'm looking to see what other options are available. Or even do I go stock frame or not.

You want 400whp on E85. You can pretty much do that on a stock 9 turbo on a dynojet. Buy a 71hta, and stop worrying about it.

The Red is cheaper and flows more! Is the journal bearing CHRA a big disadvantage?

And doesn't the 71HTA CHRA flow about the same as the Red? What are the advantages of one over the other?

Not for what you want to do those are alot laggier. 71hta or a 73hta will work great I think they have a sale right now on the 71 great deal.
