Stock Evo With Atmospheric BOV

Hi, I bought a Evo 8 recently and it's all stock besides an atmospheric BOV (unknown brand) would this cause poor idling? My idling is pretty bad at times, the rpms drop really low then they'll rise up quite a bit. Would it be because of the BOV or would something else be causing this?

Could be the bov, but could be other things such as a boost leak or the tune.

I ran a VTA bov with MAF and stock IC piping for a while with no issues.

If the BOV has a spring in it light enough that it hangs open a little bit at idle, then yeah it'll cause it to run poorly as long as it's open loop.

Like the guy above said, just recirculate it. You won't gain anything going VTA stock, and it'll run worse.

Lightly sprung BOV's are open at idle. You need to recirculate it. Your car is on MAF, so your dumping metered air out of the BOV and confusing the ECU. Either get a speed density tune, or recirculate the BOV.

couple of nooby questions.
1. Could this also cause the service vehicle soon light to be on?
2. How would I go about recirculating the BOV? Or would I be better off going back to a stock 8 BOV or getting an Evo 9 BOV?

what if Im running speed density? would a atmospheric dump be ok? could I do 50/50? (don’t like too much noise) or keep it recirculating?

sorry not to highjack thread, cant post new threads yet.

my answers to questions
1.it possibly could, the venting of air messes with the maf sensor.
2.if your bov has a connector or adapter that can convert it to a recirculating type then go for that my old gfb bov had a trumpet block adapter if i wanted it to fully recirculate. on that note i would suggest going back to stock or getting a metal evo9 valve as those will handle any horsepower you throw at it unless you get a little crazy and the driveability benefits of the stock piece really outweigh all the vent to atmosphere choices.

Thank you! Much appreciated. Any recommendations on what site to order a metal 9 BOV off of?
