Question about resonated exhausts.
I am in the process of looking for the quietest 3" catback. I have narrowed it down to the AVO and the Fujitsubos. I have heard they both sound like stock and I have seen that they also look stock. The AVO looks more stock, but I like the Fujitsubo quality. Anyway, what is the actual design of a resonator. I heard that the fujitsubo necks down to 2.5 inches in the resonators. I thought resonators were just little mufflers? AVO necks down also? I am just wondering if there is a quiet exhaust that is 3" all the way through. If there isn't, would it be better to just get an Ultimate Racing 2.5" cat rather than a 3"? I would like to get the 3" cat, but because of of the resonators, are they enogh to nullify the benefits of the 3"? My ideal setup is the Fujitsubo with a hiflow cat, and either the fujitsubo or HKS downpipe. Hopefully they all fit. Then again I don't know if the 2.5" cat is a neck down from either downpipe. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. You guys are always helpful.

That's nice, but it doesn't answer my question. It is still not 3 inch. I have seen a clip with delete pipe. Too much smoke coming out of tailpipe. I don't like the appearance either. Thanks though for the reply, though. It's the thought that counts.

I've got the AVO.
The resonatated section is a full 3" on the inside, wide open, with a perforated wall which allows gases to be resonated, I guess, into the extra volume. The muffler is designed the same way. Yeah, it necks down to fit the stock cat, but you can still run a UR 3" high flow, from what I've heard. I imagine you wouldn't quite be reaping all the benefits of the 3 inch cat because of the neck down.
Quality is very good on the AVO. I like the fact that the tip is .5 inch bigger than stock, but it still doesn't look like a fart can exhaust. Can't speak for the Fujitsubo. I've got the HKS downpipe with ceramic coating.
2.5 is a neck down from the hks downpipe because it is 2.75.
Hope this helps.
Let me know if you have any other questions about the AVO.

I think resonators make the exhaust sound deeper. If you want quiet, don't get a N1 style muffler. I think those oval-shaped mufflers, like the AVO, like some of the Fujitsubo, like stock, are the more quiet ones.
inariv5573,
I saw in other posts that you said you had the Greddy Titanium exhaust, and that you were polishing it up. Did you ever put it on the car ? And if you did it , was it too loud even with the silencer fitted that's supposed to bring the noise down below 95 db ?
I am asking because I thinking of getting the Greddy ( because of it's lightness, straight out exit angle ), but probably like you, I don't want the exhaust to be too loud.
Any feedback on the greddy is welcome, through pm, or if it's not hijacking this thread too much, on this thread.

Actually, orikosan, I was considering putting it up for sale. I did not install it. Looks great polished, I would sell it at a good price, and it is polished also. So I personally haven't heard it. I just saw the quality of the Fujitsubo and fell in love. Good memory in regards to my previous post though.
I had to send it to Swain Technologies in NY.
Here's the thread:https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ght=swain+tech
Turnaround was 2-3 weeks. It's pretty neat stuff- I can touch the DP for a second just after turning off the car without being burned.
