I can't speak for the UTEC, but the ECU+ needs a Windows-ish PC to run the ECU+ Win software. If your DVD screen is actually a Windows PC in disguise, has a serial port, and has some way for you to get external code into it, then the ECU+ Win software would run.

I kinda doubt it, tho.

There are in-car DIN-mount PC's now. I'm not too knowledgeable about in-car DVD screens, though. Can they take a VGA input from a PC? That would be hella cool!

Mark,
The value in the UTEC's timing map is the value you are running no matter what the stock ECU ignition timing map is doing. Junior explained that he did see some fuel map switching (after detonation) and that was causing him a little frustration.

In any case the timing values in the UTEC are absolute; they are not piggybacked in any way, so it doesn't matter if the stock ECU wants to run 1 degree or 30. The UTEC will always run what you have programmed.

The fuel map on the other hand is still a piggyback system and when the stock ECU switches to a rich or lean fuel map the overall AFR will drift with it.

The new UTEC software addresses this because it is no longer piggybacking off of the stock ECU's fuel map.

I can see a benefit to making the stock ECU’s fuel maps the same (or very close to the same) when tuning with a UTEC, but there would be no benefit to changing the ignition timing maps under full load when the UTEC is in control.
