Oem Lsd install question

hi, today I was installing an lsd out of an evo rs into my 2004 evo gsr. I got everything apart and pulled the old open diff out of the ring gear assembly and put my new diff in there along with the same black washers. I closed everything up and got all of the bolts and the ring gear back on. I flipped it over to have a look at the other side and I felt the lsd inside the assembly shift the tiniest bit. for example: if you stand the the entire ring gear assembly on its one end and then flip it 180 degrees you will hear the lsd on the inside go from the top to the bottom. maybe less than 1/8in. this kind of concerned me though. is this normal?? do I need thicker black washers for the lsd?? I just don't want to be missing something and then put everything together and break something that wasn't broken in the first place. thank you for any input, Brian

Read the service manual. I'm sure you have to measure the clearance and use the proper sized washers.

If I can remember correctly, the open diff had the same play as the OEM LSD unit when I did 2 Evos. Both are still driving on the road and I did theirs maybe 1-2 years ago.

Are you guys saying the GSR has an open rear diff from the factory? It's an LSD just put together incorrectly.
