Evo 9 turbo or maperformance ef4 for my evo8

Hello guys just got an 2003 evo 8 have been doing a lot of research on what to do I want to get around 360 whp out of it heard it's pretty safe I need help. It has a crappy obxr eBay turbo in it and it's going out. Has shaft play and burning a lot of oil. So I figured might as well upgrade to a bigger/better turbo. Heard the evo 9 Td05hr-16g6-10.5t turbos are very good. But someone is selling an maperformance ef4 turbo and I don't know which one to get. Heard the ef4 spools pretty late around 4-4.5 k rpm

Planning to get HKS cams 264 intake and 272 exhaust cams found some for very cheap good condition.

Has already a bigger intercooler not sure what kind
Full Exhaust
Ingen full cold air intake setup
Stock injectors (do I need bigger injectors)
255 walbaro fuel pump

Just really looking for some input here what to do and what mods to add.

IMO, i would do the EF4 mated to a FP Manifold so long as the turbo is in good condition at a reasonable price. with cams, ditch the HKS's and just go with GSC S1's if you worry about idle lope if not just go with S2's. I have Kelford 272's and DD fine but do lope a bit. you should get at minimum 1200cc injectors although your single walbro will be the limit on power if you do e85.

but.... 350 is fairly easy to do with a stock turbo. im on a stocker 03 evo 16G 9.8T turbo with all bolt ons, injectors, walbro and kelford 272 cams and very close to 350whp on DJ/93 octane. With the evo 9 turbo 350 is no prblem. It is plenty fun. but, i hope this helps you out. good luck!

Evo 9 turbo. Cheap bolt on and makes a great street monster on e85 and cams.

I have a fp red now but before the red i rocked a 9 turbo in my rs evo 8.

I waxed every evo i ever ran. Even ef3 e85 cammed evo x.

Its a beast of a stock turbo.

Stay away from MAP turbo's. MAP no longer makes them, so if it goes bad, you're left with a paperweight.

Get an Evo 9 turbo, an FP 71hta, or a Blouch 1.0

With the cam selection and the hp goals stick with the 9 turbo, you will be so much happier

Ok I'll go with evo 9 turbo. Heard people sell stuff on here how do i find one?

i just want to get the HKS cams because it's a local pickup and very cheap $200 for both heard they do the job.

I want to run regular 92 gas
now just need to know if I need bigger injectors to get my goal on stock short block. (350-400 whp)

Does anyone one know what whp is safe for a stock engine?

Any cam will do the job. Others better then some. There is a old thread on here someweres that compared a bunch of cams and put them in a list from worst to best. I think ams did the dyno testing i forget.

I have gsc s2 cams and love them.

Horsepower isnt really important. Torque bends and breaks rods.

I would stay under 400 ft lb of torque on stock rod and piston.
