Gsc cams: s2 vs r2

I've been researching and was really considering the s2's but I plan in the future to do a 2.4 stroker. It appears the r2's are meant for a stroker build but I'd like to get cams and springs and retainers now for my 2.0. I don't like buying performance parts twice. Just trying to get opinions on what would be best. I've read that the r2s are basically like a middle for cams between the s2 and s3. Will I make about the same power on the s2s or would be best with the r2s.

If anyone could chime in please don't hesitate to reply.

you can reuse the same valves, springs, retainers regardless of which cams you wanna use. The R2 is better for your stroker setup with higher lift at 12mm. I mean this is only one aspect of your build. theres also compression ratio, turbo size, transmission gears ratios....If you know your goals just build one time, get the R2's and stay stock until the day comes

7008R2 ADV Duration Duration @ 1mm Peak Lift CenterLine
Intake 274 236 12.0mm 109
Exhaust 274 236 12.0mm 115

7008S2 ADV Duration Duration @ 1mm Peak Lift CenterLine
Intake 274 230 11.20mm 107
Exhaust 274 230 11.00mm 113

They recommend springs and retainers for any of these cams.

I know that. Just trying to get opinions on what would be my best option. To be honest I'm thinking the r2s. Should work with my stock 2.0 and when I go stroker in the future it would benefit there the. Out I'm sure. Just don't want to get them if they hinder performance on my 2.0

The car will be annoyingly laggy! If your car is stock, engine/turbo/intercooler I'd recommend either Tomei Poncams 270 or Kelford272s

I would put S2's in it until you build the motor. R2's will lose ~300rpm of spool on an 8.

Also, the R2 is NOT "in between" the S2 and S3. Yes, it's duration is in the middle, but it has more lift than the S3. The R2 is the ideal cam for motor builds with >2.2L displacement that aren't revving over 9k rpm and are running a decent turbo upgrade and planning to make north of 600whp.

I may just stick to s2s and tranfer them over when I do a built 2.4. I refuse to buy parts twice. Basically building my future motor to do a reliable 10sec pass. Then I'm moving on to another car, but will keep the EVO.

youre not. youre buying cams for your 2.0 then youre buying cams for a completely different motor. you already have a crank, rods and pistons in your car so why are you buying another then??

Excuse me? Not be rude but that makes no sense. If I'm buying cams I'm only buying one set of cams. Meaning if I go r2s they are going in my 2.0 and when I build my 2.4 they will be going in that. Or vice versa. I'm not buying s2s then when I do a build go r2s. Plan is to buy one set of cams.

Well take in to consideration your end result, if a 2.4 is your end result, get what you need for that regardless of how it affects your 2.0. I don't know, we can log 300rpms loss in spool and I don't know about others but I damn sure can't feel the difference.

I say get the r2's, do it once and be done with it.

If it's only 300rpms in lag will you really notice it?? Prob not.
Thanks for the reply;

300rpms are for ever...

We're tried a lot of different things, and the fella that suggested Tomei 270 is right, as well as GSC S2 cams..they will work great in both situations- on 2.0 and on 2.4.

Call GSC and ask them, you use what the people who made the cams tell you to use and you can't go wrong. I know the internet never lies but you will be more comfortable with what GSC has to say then constant conflicting replies on here.
