Is the revised HKS GTII 7460R housing reliable?

Hi.

The wastegate flapper and actuator are gone on my non-Kai HKS 7460R. Tried replacing the exhaust housing with a machined OEM 9.8 housing but it is spoolinh only after 4000RPM so there is definitely something wrong.

So I'm struggling to fix it or find a replacement turbo with a superb spool and capable of 400whp@1.6bar.

Is the revised hot housing from HKS reliable? The one I have didn't last 4 trackdays.

400whp? How about an FP 71 HTA? If that doesn't work, FP Green or GT3071.

None of these options are cheaper then buying the revised turbine housing from HKS.

the 9.8 housing is the best way to make the turbo reliable. your slow boost feedback suggests you are making mistake somewhere. maybe the wastegate is not setup correctly. in need of proper preload. could be a dozen other things too.

94AWDcoupe do you have experience putting the 9.8 housing on this turbo? I would really like to be able to do this vs forking over the ~800 bucks HKS lists the replacement housing for.

yes, just a matter of finding a turbo shop who will bore the exhaust housing to fit wheel.
I have had four different turbo shops do this for me over the years.

Thanks for the update. How would you characterize the effect it had on the turbo? Did you keep the HKS adjustable WGA, use the stock one, or go with a different after market?

We got it fixed. The tuner found out the problem. Now he is amazing with how the turbo is performing. The car's A/F got 10% leaner from 1700 to 3500 so the "new" turbo breathes a lot more.

It is good news because I think the HKS 7460R is a GREAT turbo. The fast spool always amazed me like it was the first time

One thing didn't work out. I bought a Turbosmart Evo 9 WGA but it wouldn't bolt on to the HKS 7460R with a 9.8 MHI housing. They had to modify the stem.

Thats great news! Would you mind sharing the info of the shop you had do the work on the turbo? The shop I was looking to have do the work is being a bit unresponsive.
