Ported Exhaust Manifold Matching

Ported Exhaust Manifold Matching
hello everybody,
Dou you need a ported head to be able to max out the potential of ported exhaust manifold?
it is useless to use ported manifold if your head is not ported?
is this applies to intake manifold too?
thanks guys.

Porting done right should help. If you have your head apart and have the funds, send it to a pro machine shop so each cylinder port is exactly the same as the others. Personally, I'd rather have #4 cylinder (closest to throttlebody) slightly smaller since it tends to get more air than rest.
I just ported my exhaust manifold last week but won't touch my head since I'm not taking that off.

no real point in touching the flange that goes on the head, but rather fix both flanges on the manifold to turbo connection side...

Turbo Inlet
On the turbo inlet, I will open up the lower right corner of the left hole to match gasket.

Inlet to the turbo should be gasket matched. Exhaust manifold exit can also be opened to match the turbo gasket.
I'm sure porting results can be skewed, but there are some quality porters out there...or you can do it yourself if you have the tools.
You can do A LOT more porting on that turbo hotside than you've done. Since you're in Cali, you could check out SoCal Porting.

I'll open up the exhaust sideways where possible but I'm planning on leaving 2-3 mm metal (smaller than gasket).
Thanks!!
