50 over bore head gasket selection

50 over bore head gasket selection

I took a gamble and picked up a brand new Buschur 2.3 that had been bored .050 over. The price was too good not to pass up so i bit the bullet. Now i need to select a head gasket. I understand this is at the limit of what some would deem safe, and beyond the limit of what some would recommend, which is .040 over. Its a risk I'm willing to take. I have a spare untouched 2.0L block if this ends up going south, and ill have that built if need be.

My question is what head gasket should i use? I like JE Pro Seal gaskets. They offer a 86.3mm and 87.5mm head gasket in 3 different thicknesses each. 86.3mm seems really tight compared to the 86.25mm bore. To compare the stock JE Pro Seal head gasket offering is an 85.3mm for the oem 85mm bore. So if i go with a JE head gasket, should i use the 86.3 or the 87.5? And what better options are there besides JE in a .050 over bore head gasket?

(I contacted an engine builder but he is very busy and he deals mainly with Subaru engines but has built a couple .020 over 4g63. The other resource pretty much refuses to help because they don't like the shop I'm using for my build. So here i am hoping to get some useful info until my friend can take a look at the engine. Both the head and shortblock have been decked once so far. Not sure how much material was taken off. This is a 10.5:1 comp, 2.3L with a FP Black on a MHI housing running E85)

Got it squared away. 86.3mm is the correct gasket for a .050 over 4g63. I'm not sure why they offer an 87.5mm for the 4g63. That's probably just a mistake on the site and is meant for the 4g64 block. Went with the thickest gasket since both the head and block had been decked.
