GSC S2 cams on stock bottom end?

Question GSC S2 cams on stock bottom end?

I recently picked up a low mileage evo8 with a Garrett 3582R setup.

The previous owner had made some questionable choices in the order of power upgrades in my opinion...such as the car is on stock cams =[

I see that GSC s2 cams are a good match for the 35R as long as you do valvesprings.

My concern is, will the s2 cams push the car into a power level that will jeopardize the stock rods?

Current power level is 360awhp / 308tq on a mustang dyno with 1.0CF, tuned just a few weeks ago. (This dyno is a heartbreaker but the car is still quick for what it is). Any advice is appreciated.

S2's are a fine choice. Proper tuning is what will control the torque to safe levels.

I had GSC S2s with my HTA3076R and stock bottom end for a while.

Now I have the same S2s with the same turbo but on a buschur built 2.3.

(I upgraded the engine by choice, not because something failed)

I've heard somewhere around 400 tq on the dyno is around the max safe level for stock rods, would you tend to agree?

Depends on the dyno, but around there is safe.

Gsc s2 with gsc beehives here. Love the cams. Car pulls like raped ape all the way to 8200 rpm. The cams really help the engine come alive past 5,000 rpm.

As for torque and keeping things safe. Thats all in the tune. Controlling either boost or timing advance or both to stay within safe torque levels.

The stage of cam doesnt matter really.

Thats great, I'm pumped to run these. Why'd you choose 8200 as your rev limit though? I know GSC says you can run these to 9k but I thought 8500 would be a reasonable limit. Should I have any concerns about rod bolts at those rpms?

Theres no reason behind my rev limit honestly. Looking over my rom its actually 8306 rpm but when bounced off limiter i thibk it goes to 8500 rpm. I have noticed though that the higher i rev it out. The harder it becomes to catch the next gear. Seems the clutch doesnt slow the rpm down fast enough.

Ah I know that feeling already, I'm getting lockout sometimes even from 8k. I definitely have to adjust the clutch point up and see if I can get it right.

Would dropping the oil pan and doing just arp bolts let me push it a bit farther? This set of cams is the last modification I plan on doing before a bottom end build. Cams this off season, bottom end build the following year.

I would say those give you extra security at 8k. I still wouldn't push the stock rods.

Thanks, I'll keep it within the recommended limits. It's not worth the extra few hp/tq to risk the motor.

I like to err on the side of keeping it together, hence why my red was left at "only" 505whp. I'd rather my car be fun and mostly reliable, than go searching for that extra 30-50whp and really raise the risk of having a catastrophic failure. I'll save the kill tune for when the 2.2slr goes in..
