hi I knew most of you guys in the states are on e85 or higher for big hp, or c16 so I gather. For me in the United Kingdom I could get ethanol if I really wanted but it’s so expensive 25 litres of it is £85!!!
so what I was going to do was: mix up shell vpower which is 97 Ron with an additive I can get which will make 108-110 Ron plus water/meth injection.
or my dad suggested av gas aviation fuel which has no **** in it just pure petroleum spirit and that is 101 Ron on it’s own then plus my additive which would take it to more. What do you guys think? Have any of you used avgas? My dad thinks it’s safe as aircraft fueling is very strict for safety with no crap in it for fuel pipe rotting etc!
So can I use just this and ditch the water meth injection (saving me money) but at the same time I want something that works and my car is going to be in excess of 900+hp so needs something hefty to run on. Let me know what you think or suggest.

As long as you tune your car for the specific fuel it should be fine. Keep in mind that depending on what fuel you run, it'll have an impact on things like emissions so if you're trying to get the car to pass inspection that might pose a problem.

The other thing to take into account and this may be more pressing for you, is that Im pretty sure Avgas is a leaded fuel. Given that you should know that alone with health concerns (not here to act as your Dr!) certain car components may not play nicely as well such as O2 sensors which will get coated in lead and fail prematurely and cats can clog although I'd imagine yours wont have one. Also, make sure your injectors are made to withstand that sort of fuel.

Thanks for that mate yeah it won’t have a cat, or would you say use just the vpower (97ron) and the meth injection...or the vpower with the additive I mentioned (still expensive about £30 to treat 4 gallons of vpower) plus the meth injection? What do you think?

 

Leaded gas and most additives will coat things with nasty stuff and kill 02 sensors fast.

 

Okay so forgetting the avgas then, what would you do use she’ll vpower(97 octane) on it’s own in the tank paired up with a really good meth kit. Or use the vpower mixed with something and the meth injection? Would the 97 octane vpower be enough on its own with the meth??

 

Firstly there is no additive (octane booster) that can increase octane rating of any type of regular pump gas to 108 ron. Secondly read up on avgas as you are lacking info and you got it wrong : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avgas


If you tune your car for it it will work, I recommend using VP import instead as an additive to regular pump fuel.




I use straight pump fuel from a certain company over here advertised as 98+ ron, but I found it to be more effective than the 100 ron formula they used to offer. On a self built/mapped setup I made 810hp at the wheels.

I would stay away from AvGas and here is someone selling a nice Meth injection kit too.
Probably one of you least costly choices in the UK unless you start making your own Alky.

Yes just checked that out it’s a nice kit but I think I’ll probably go for the DevilsOwn doc-100 kit as I want to be running 45-50psi of boost with my car. It’s got a Garrett gt42r turbo it’s a beast!

 

I was facing this dilemma a few years ago, as E85 was not available around here. I almost opted for a meth kit but I saw a few stories of how engines fail on these kits. Instead I went ahead and found a local supplier of ethanol. 3 years later, still running ethanol and enjoying all of its benefits.

 

I've run 100LL before in an evo 9, it allowed us to max the stock turbo out just fine. Didn't seem to have much adverse effect on plug or o2 sensor life, as it is a lower lead content fuel. However it is still leaded, so plug life will suffer.
