block prep procedure

Hey guys, doing a headgasket on an 8 and was wondering what the best way is to prep the block surface for the new gasket. I was thinking a blade and brake cleaner but after reading around the forums etc now idk since everyone says something different. Wondering how you guys do it.

There's not really a wrong way to do it as long as the surface is clean and free of debris when you're done. I prefer using Scotchbrite and WD-40 then wiping it down with brake clean before throwing the gasket on.

Should I take the dowel pins off so I can clean it better?
