Walbro 450 fuel system question?

Hi everyone, my name is Ricky im new to the evo M forums and a proud new owner of a Beatufiul WW 06 Evo IX, i dont post really as i just read mostly, i used to be apart of the Subaru world for a long while back 13 years ago and havnt had another car to build until now and this Evo is one our dream cars, it has a ton of work done 2.3l 6262 percision etc. but as me being me im redoing everything to my standards. Ive searched for proper answers for this but a lot of the threads get a little off topic. So here it is

right now car has a decent tune in it, injectors are way small since the first owner ran menth injection with 780 injectors, new tune is just on 93, havnt been able to log anything yet, wating on my cables. Its running now a walbro 255

but im going to CBRD for a fresh new tune with a fresh fuel system.

Question is im going to a walbro 450 and ID 1050s and a fuel lab FPR, since im gonna have a FPR, im assuming since i can adjust my fuel pressure And be regulated that i can just throw it in with the 780 injectors i have now and set the stock Fuel Pressure that ill be ok until i get a tune, it should make a difference between that and the 255 due to my regulator? Or am i just wrong on that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

just and FYI i have every supporting parts to have this pump run correctly from fuel lines to hard wired.

thank you in advance

ricky

Hey Ricky, Welcome aboard

Now that youre an owner, there will be no sitting on the side lines Chime-in daily

You will need to get tuned ASAP after changing injectors or the FPR. Ive not done my FPR but drove to my tuner on larger injectors. Put it this way, the 4G63 was not too happy & i stayed in vacuum the whole way.

Best to drop-in the injectors & the FPR that same day as the tune

thanks joe, appreciate it, i shouldve been a little more specific, im not putting the injectors in until right before the tune, i have everything setup to where i can drop em in in about 10 mins so i was gonna do it in the parking lot. I was hoping to have the fuel pump and FPR installed before i take the 2 hour trip, my thinking was that with that larger pump ill be ok with the FPR since what isnt needed from the larger pump will be sent back to the tank, essentially not making a difference from the wally 255 and the stock FPR, since my injectors will only flow as much as they were set during the last tune. *My thoughts* just seeing if i was wrong or not.

thanks!

ricky

Ricky. Since Ive not done the FPR im not sure how it will react. It might be totally OK. The other boys will chime-in w/a better opinion

Great to have you on board. Your setup is going to make some power!

thanks Minus, great to be apart of another awesome community! Im hoping ill be right lol, but if not ill be able to do the fuel pump in the parking lot also lol, i have a radium hanger, im doing this build right as much as i can, ive seen the mods of the stock hangers but with my situation now i would like to install stuff in my car that specifically made to work with the pump im using, worse case scenarios i have an untouched stock hanger, im doing all this because im eventually gonna go E85 but for some reason theres not any pumps in Delaware, ill be ready to switch over with just a swap of the injectors, just dont know when that will be just yet. And as of right now it makes some great power this car was built perfectly for how i drive, love them back roads just want a great reliable tune With plenty of power to spare. thanks again for chiming in brother!🤘

The fuel pressure regulator shouldn't be an issue at all. Especially since the fuel pressure is regulated on the return side and not the feed side anyways. So if you set it to base pressure (which is 43.5 with the vacuum line disconnected) it will be the same as the stock one anyways. I know I ended up bumping my fuel pressure to 56 psi but I am also running twice the injector as you with twin fuel pumps. The fuel pump to drive around should be fine. Just keep in mind though that you are replacing it with a pump twice the size of the one you have now. Lower rpms shouldn't be an issue but I wouldn't get on it til its tuned because the car will run rich up top. I recently went from a 450 to a 525 for my primary pump and my afr at 7k went from 11.2 on the 450 to 10.8 on the 525 (I run E-85) before making adjustments to the tune. BTW on the walbro 450 order the pump with part number F90000274. That is the high flow version of the Walbro 450 pump.

Thanks brother for the info 🙏🏻, thats great news, what you said is what i was kinda thinking would happen, well see how this new hanger turns out, if anything i might just drop in the fuel pump and injectors in the parking lot of the shop right before the tune, im on my verge of learning to tune its something ive been needing to do since i live so far from tuners, just to be able to log and due enough adjustments to get me to a shop reliably, i can tune carburetors havnt dabbled in the EFI part yet, my eyes have been hurting due to all the reading lol. But again thanks again brother 🙏🏻
