Mod #2 Installed... :)

Hi Guys,

I just installed my HKS Racing Suction Intake today. Took a total of two hours to do since I have to remove the stock intake flex tubing from the turbo inlet. Removing the end that connects to the turbo was a beeatch to do because somehow, the clamp screw was underneath the tubing... I cut my hand about 3 times on the fan shroud trying to unscrew the clamp...YIKES! Someone must have had really small hands or was just trying to be mean by leaving the screw underneath the tubing. I couldn't even get to it from underneath and had to perform some cirque du soleil twisting with both my hands just to get to it!

Anyway, it was all worth it. I reset the ECU and everything seems fine so far. The butt-o-meter can't determine whether there is HP improvement yet...BUT the sound difference is incredible! With the window rolled down, I can hear the intake sucking in air at 3K RPM's and the stock BOV recirculating with a loud Pssshhhhhh! If one is planning to change the BOV for sound...do the intake first - it will be pretty loud already...I plan to do an aftermarket recirc BOV when I will be going with higher boost and an e-BC and tuned ECU anyway, but the sound of the stock BOV is already pretty impressive!

Attached is a pic...

BTW Some of the stock plastic parts for the intake are pretty cheap and fragile...that's fine because all the cost went into the good stuff!

The HKS materials were high quality stuff!

Looks good. How much did you pay for it and where?

You may want to create a heat shield and refit the intake duct....

The aerodynamics as far as the inlet is concerned, are designed around that scoop... don't get rid of it.

also if you live in a dusty area ... monitor the HKS's filtration .. Its one of the poorest filtering solutions available!

True, nice sound improvement over stock. Once you upgrade your exhaust though, it will become harder to hear. I hardly ever hear mine anymore........... (guess if I didn't step on it all the time I would though )

couldn't pass this one up....
hey man, my friend and I also installed the HKS RS on my white EVO last night (yeah, bout 3 hrs too).
we were cursing the Jap mechanic who had to position the screw underneath the tubing.
we don't have patience for that kind of stuff...we cut the damn clamp and that took care of it!
anyway, drove home that night and blew a tricked-out 'stang going to 5th. left him with a loud PSHHHHH!!! (was not even funny)
yeah, he'll remember that one...
hey, what do you think about those aftermarket BOVs? yeah, i've heard they could be useful when sustaining higher boost levels

Hmmm...I don't know why people think the HKS filter is crap...

I mean is it letting dirt go through the filter and damage the engine? That would be the only concern for the foam filter that HKS uses for the RS kit. You think HKS would be willing to sell a filter element that could cause damage to the engine by allowing more dirt particles in than other aftermarket filter substrates. I would be extremely interested in the study that was done to prove that the HKS foam allows more dirt to pass compared to the Apexi filter? How would you set that experiment up? Granted all aftermarket filter compromise filtration as compared to the stock filter, how much dirt is too much? If such an experiment does not exist, then the rest is marketing hearsay, IMO.

If it is because it gets dirtier easier than an Apexi filter, then one would think that's a good thing, right? It means it is stopping more dirt than the other filters? Besides, the HKS filter is yellow, thus showing dirt more easily compared to other filter substrates. There is always going to be same amount of dirt for any type of filter to filter out. If the HKS filter gets dirtier easier, just take it out and clean it more often. One should be doing that for any aftermarket or stock filter for that matter.

Can anyone expand on exactly why the HKS filter element sucks...

Brent

I think people don't like the HKS element because it can't be cleaned, has to be replaced. Can get a little pricey.

The HKS filters cost a whopping 10-12 dollars. Buy a bulk of them and you'll be fine for a couple years.

As for power gains, I picked up 9whp on a AWD Mustang Dyno after my install.

the hks filter is crap their have been test donw with a vacum that show how much dirt it sucks through its nasty as hell i wouldnt put one of the on my car if you payed me!!! one of the cleanest filters tested was the apexi it also made more hp then others also so at this point you have spent 30k for a car you should put cheap parts on it. just my opinion. and BTW i work on finding that filter testing thing i saw it on here like 6y months ago so i got quite the mission inhead of me = /
