Well, I wish I went with the Toplines. Was under the impression both were downgrades to OEM but @50 a pop x 16 I was all set. Just figured GSC cams and valvetrain I'll go GSC for lifters as well.

But my point was I only replaced bc I was afraid of contamination not due to ticking. This dates back now but with stock valvetrain and cams I had a tick. HKS272s and OEM lifters ticked. S2s and OEM lifters ticked. And now with R2s and the GSC cams it ticks. Is that tick prematurely wearing out the lobes? Like I'm guessing its a metal on metal sound. But does it actually matter bc Im not sure it does. As long as its not hurting anything then WTF do I care? My evo isn't quiet and it never will be.

A light tick won't hurt anything it's just wasting lift on the cam lobe to take up that lash. If it's a heavy tick it could damage a cam, not very likely tho.

I always have one that sounds like the cam is pretty much slapping the crap out of the rocker. It's intermittent, though. I.E. today I started the car and couldn't really hear it too much... but sometimes, it's just kinda embarrassing.
