Solid lifters?

I've been through three sets of "zero tick" lifters and can't stand it any more. There is ticking when they are new and, while it occasionally quiets down ,it never goes away. I can hear it every time I get out of the car.
anyone every try solid lifters? If so ,do they need more frequent adjustment than any other car?

Never heard a solid lifter car quieter then hydraulic. Lol..... If you don't like the current valve train noise you will definitely hate the solid lifter noise.
Plus setting the lash is a pain.

Solid lifters will be louder as you'll never have true zero lash.

I have found the top line revised lifters to be quieter than the "zero ticks". Also less expensive. I was told to try these by someone with a 7 second dsm that runs them, so, yeah...

Damn wish I knew about these before I bought my zeroticks. I guess I'll throw in the ZTs and hope for the best, but based on this thread I'm having second thoughts.

Kaj, did you bleed them and pump them up with fluid before you installed them like the manual says?

Is OE out of the question? I'm at 110k on mine and zero ticking issues after 3 rebuilds and swapping in larger cams.

Yeah, this. Literally anything else is $100-$140, why would you spend several hundred?

I filled with diesel fuel, I put in empty, I tried there different ways. The current lifters were done per the service manual.

I was fhinking used OE which are ususally pretty cheap. There's a reason new OE are expensive, the quality control is going to be considerably higher.

Does anyone have a lifter that they can take some measurements from? They look to be about the same size as the ones used in Ecotecs. If that is the case, new OEM ones are about $100 for all 16. Might be a good alternative. The tip that the rocker rides on looks a bit smaller on the Evo lifter though.

Here is a picture of the gen 1 lifter. The gen 2 have a different tip that looks more like the Evos.

You are the first person I've heard say their stock lifters don't tick. I'm not spending $800 to buy something with an outdated design that will likely tick (the toplines are updated with a larger oil inlet similar to the GSC's). Used ones are a crap shoot.

Does it actually matter if they tick? Im not sure I've ever heard a 4G valvetrain that didn't make a ruckus...Im using the GSC ones now for my new motor bc I didnt feel comfortable reusing my factory lifters after the bearing failure. Would have love to run the OEM ones over the GSC but this seemed like a safer option. My OEM ones ticked and the GSC tick as well.

They all make some noise. Especially with aftermarket cams it's not gonna be silent. But the aftermarkets are generally better than OEM. My stock lifters with S2's made a pretty good racket when cold. The top lines with R2's are much quieter.
