EVO8 Exhaust System Changeover: noob

Hello All,

Ok...I've seen a gazillion posts concerning EVO8 muffy systems and such. I've drawn a few conclusions so far and need some advice to see if this upgrade path (limited funds) is good or not.

Eventually I would like to go with a full 3" exhaust with a high flow cat. In order to do this I want to upgrade one piece at a time, starting with the muffy and piping back to the cat. I know that at sometime I'll probably have to tune/buy a computer because the exhaust characteristic will change so much its only 'right' to tune things up. So...here are the steps, tell me if I'm thinking correctly. My biggest beef is I don't think I should put a downpipe on until I'm ready to complete the full system, or at least have a computer ready in order to remap the system...thoughts?

As some background I've done quite a few exhausts/jet changes/FI remaps for street bikes. This is my first car I've had to play with...

1.) Get a catback.
2a.) Get a High Flow cat with a stock DP to 3" adaptor.
2b.) Get a computer "upgrade."
2c.) Get a new crossmember to accomodate the larger DP.
3.) Get a 3" downpipe and take out the adaptor. Retune.

From my understanding of turboed machines, they don't like to have a restriction after the pipe has been 'opened' up? For example...putting on a 3" downpipe on a smaller cat, and then reopen the pipe after the cat to 3"? Is my thinking correct?

Thanks,

jcnel.
