2.3L Easy Stroker Kit by Zed Performance Uk

I am planning to buy the stroker kit provided by Zed Performance. The supplier claims that this stroker kit is compatible with the stock pistons. So basically, unlike conventional kits, this uses a shorter con rod (144mm) and a custom 4g64 (100mm) crank. I’m currently making 380whp (VD) with the stock 9 turbo and Tomei 270 pro cams. I might get the 71 chra, which might add another 20whp. My goal is to shift the powerband to the left (quicker spool). Does anyone have experience with this kit? I would highly appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

ask the seller what final CR will you get with stock pistons and this kit.. Report back and we can all have a laugh.

Second, stock pistons are press fit, check if these rods are compatible...
Third, that rod ratio will lead to more block wear...

I personally wouldn't do it, the rod/stroke ratio is pretty poor. Why would you want to keep the stock pistons, anyway? If you're going to build a motor, spend a tiny bit extra to build it properly, with the recipe that has been used hundreds of times.

Next, Tomei 270s are BIG cams, way too big for a stock turbo variant. I would be going with something a lot smaller (Tomei 260, GSC S1/S2, etc).

Im a newbie here but Im glad that Ive actually found a topic that I can add a comment to.
I bought that Evo stroker kit 2 years ago. Im not a mechanic so I cant comment on fitting but a local garage fitted it and they didnt have problem with it.
I had over 400whp. Unfortunately I had to sell it as our baby arrived 3 months ago.
We didnt change pistons as all feature of the con rod including piston pin is the same as the stock.
I just checked and I found this stroker kit on ebay. Seller has 2 sales and almost 100% positive feedback.
He also sells EVO crankshafts and he sold many. I just assume that it is the same seller but maybe not.
The EVO crankshaft was a German made stuff. If Im not mistaken the brand was HEWERK.
I used it for 2 years and I had absolutely no problem with the kit. I assume they are a good pick.

@4G63master Thanks a lot for the feedback. So what you are saying is that the kit is a bolt on with no installation issues and has been reliable for two years. How often did your drive the car aggressively? And how much improvement did you see in spool? 500rpm?

@kikiturbo Thanks for your feedback. I'll ask the seller about the CR. Block wear is what I'm a bit concerned about.

Compression ratio will be around 10.0:1 with stock pistons and HG according to my calculation. I would not rev it past 7,500 RPM either.

@RS200 Yes its pretty low. But I'm not going to push it past 7k-7.3k rpm. I'm happy with my current set up, but I'd like to shift my power band to the left. Most kits are manufactured for very high powered cars. Mine is just making 380whp. The Tomei 270s are making decent mid-top end power. I guess I would gain more mid-end and lose top end power if I switched to Tomei 260s.

I think the 270s are just a mismatch for your application. You would probably spool at least 300 RPM faster going down to the 260s and the top end wouldn't be drastically affected.

@RS200 Do you think the 2.3L stroker kit with the 270 cams and stock turbo would be a good idea? I hit 28.5 PSI by 4.1k rpm. I am expecting that stroking the motor would bring down my spool to 3.6k rpm.

You should be making full boost (say 25 psi) by 3600 RPM on a 2.0L with stock cams and an IX turbo (assuming you don't have an IX). It's worth a try to run as-is, since the cams will tame the high static compression ratio, and you'll probably enjoy it, but it's not ideal.

If you're not on ethanol, you will probably be quite limited on boost due to the CR.

@RS200 Would you suggest I try the kit by Zed Performance? I'm on a strict budget. Most kits cost more than $2.5K and a ton to ship it to Bangladesh. BTW, I have meth/water injection (Aquamist). Our fuel quality is horrible. Around 93 RON.

That's a good price for what it is. An Eagle/Manley kit is $1700 on Ebay, for reference. You could probably piece together a kit using a cheaper crankshaft (as I suspect the Zed kit has), Eagle 150mm rods and an off-the-shelf stroker piston. The Zed kit would get things done, but has its shortfalls. If you're willing to save $1000 to live with them, that will be up to you.

I would skip this kit and just stay with 2.0 and buy a better turbo. If the car is a 9, S2 will work fine with a set of uprated springs and if you want a quick spool monster just buy a hks 7460 turbo if it is still available..
