Title. My friend is looking at an Evo to join me and the owner is claiming a 2.3L stroker built engine. Is there any way to see that?

Dont think there is any good way to quickly confirm that! If the owner did the work he should have the build receipts

A coat hanger wire down a spark plug hole and rotate the engine will show you how much the piston travel is.
88mm std, then 97 and 100 are the stroker cranks

They will typically spool the turbo up quicker because it’s creating more torque earlier . So if you know what turbo that’s on it and see where it spools up at you can compare to similar setups. But liked mentioned above ask for documentation and receipts.

Do GTA.RS' method, it's better than guessing about the characteristics that a stroker should exhibit. There aren't any better ways that don't involve disassembly, either.

I think this is easiest way too. For evo 8/9, it's either 88mm, 94mm, or 100mm (2.3L). Make sure to use straight portion of hanger. Lol
