help me!

i was driving on the highway 2 days ago in my evo with my friend in his subaru next to me, we decide to get on it to i drop to third and go WOT, i shift at about 7100 rpm and heard a loud grinding noise , it does it now at about 6700+ RPM every time and only in the 3rd to 4th gear shift, is this the synchro? if so then this is **** because this tranny has only 10000 miles on it and already had to replace the clutch , im a good driver and have only missed 2 shifts at the trackso i dont think it could be the driving, if this is the synchro, how much is this too fix and is there anything else this problem could be? anyone else had similar problems?

Well, unfortunately at that high an RPM, a missed shift can destroy a higher gear synchro in one or two missed shifts.. there is a TSB for 5th gear, but 4th not sure of..

it MIGHT be covered under warranty assuming they cannot tell its due to abuse.. Unfortunately if you tell them you missed a shift at high RPM's.. that constitutes abuse..

ok man, this same thing happened to me. so i went to the dealer ship and they put snythetic trans oil in, and my car started to shift a whole lot better. but it still has that grind sound when i shift into fifth gear. i just know that sence i have changed the transmision oil it isn't as bad but i am looking at some aftermarket products that i can change it with.

Bring it in for that 5th gear grind before you modify the car.. There's a Service Bulletin specifically for that problem..

try a heavier weight oil.
maybe 80-140 or 85-140. it grinds because at high rpms the syncros are still spinning. a heavier weight oil should slow the syncros down a bit so you won't grind as much . you'll probably loose about 2-3hp due to the trans trying to turn through a heavier oil. It's worth a try to get rid of your grind ( if it isn't to severe )

just make sure its GL4 or higher
