Transmission fluid leak

Hi, I know there are tons of transmission fluid leaks I could search which I did and all lead to make sure the 2 o rings were installed/not torn.

Anywho had transmission/transfer case rebuilt a year ago and it was leaking very slowly between the transfer case and transmission so I thought the O rings were messed up during install. Recently I pulled the transfercase to replace the 2 o rings and made sure I didn’t screw up the install to damage them. Well after a couple of weeks I am seeing the same leak between the transfercase and transmission. I can see fluid is seeping/leaking where the big o ring area mates the two drivetrain pieces together.

So at the moment I’m stumped. Is there any other thing that could cause a leak? The leak is slow, not more than a 1/4 of a quart leaks after a couple months but it def is annoying to deal with.

its got to be the orings or the sealing surface...
no other place it could be coming from... unless its over full and leaking out the port up top and then just making its way to the bottom.

Well the leak looks to be a bit less than before I changed the seals. I saw on a diagram that it said to add oil to both o rings. I did add oil to the big o ring but not the small one but maybe that could be the cause? But at this point I’m just going to keep monitoring it.

remember... if there is residual oil anywhere, as things heat up, it moves down.
maybe it is just residual.
hopefully u good.

I've noticed some wetness there as well on my own personal car. I try to overfill my xcase and trans a smidge so just chalk it up to oil coming out the breather as it expands. Could also be residual oil that's just trickling down.

If your fluid levels arent dropping and youre not seeing drips on the ground personally I wouldn't sweat it.

Thanks for the input, at this point I’m going to assume it is the mentioned residual oil. Cleaned up what film of oil was left on it and see how goes.

Last update - There was no leak, just residual oil. After cleaning up the film of oil and a bunch of driving I see nada, nothing on the outside and when peeking between the xfercase/transmission. Whew, thats that.
