Possible Blown Conrod - A Couple of questions

Hi All

This is really a couple of questions for anyone in Sydney Australia.
I think I have blown a conrod on my 2001 Jap import Evo 7. (Loud ticking from engine at idle, engine is missing, lack of power and the Cam is fine.) My usual mechanic thinks this is the case as well all though he has only checked the cam belt etc.

He is pushing me towards an engine rebuild at about $A12k+. Is that about right for an engine rebuild with this problem in OZ?
He also has his eyes on the car and has asked what I want for it. Given the possibility of a blown conrod, what price would the car be worth in OZ dollars, If I wanted to sell it?
Engine has 160K KMs on the clock and is not stock.

Thanks for any assistance anyone can give.

All evos have gone up in price big time, look at car sales.com, if it was me I'd verify it myself before I made any hasty decision on selling it. A broken conrod is pretty catastrophic, I would drop the oil and look for metal. You could pull the pan and go deeper, or get a camera down the plug hole and have a look. A compression test would show up the cylinder. Don't walk blindly into an engine build if you don't know every detail on what's going to be replaced with what. Do as much research as you can
