Question Is my turbo dead?

Hey folks!
Taking engine apart on my 03 Evo
Wrenching everything in my garage.
The engine had low power. And was leaking oil from everywhere.
Now looking at the turbo how do I know if it's time to replace it?
The shaft has some play when you wiggle it up/down but no longitudinal (is it correct word?) play on the shaft
150k miles, turbo looks rusty and dirty
Maybe time to replace?
I'm thinking about new oem Evo 9 turbo. Saw one on full-race website for 1200 (bargain isn't it ?)
Let me know what you think :-)

Minimal Side to Side play is normal, any in and out play is bad. If your thinking about a new turbo/Upgrade I'd look at FP or Art Gennari stock location bolt on options.

Upgrading from the 9.8T to a evo 9 is worth doing regardless of the condition of the 9.8 upon removal. You'll need the EVO9 j-pipe as well.
