evo 8 engine ticking noises
noticed when i came home that the engine is ticking louder then usual
revved it up to 3k a few times but no change in sounds with rpm
it also stops on its own sounds like it comes from the back or the right side of the engine
can lifter tick stop like that and then go again?
engine doesnt misfire so i dont know if its injectors or something else is making that noise

Alright so its really hard to diagnosis a tick without hearing it in person, but I'll give it a shot.
The fact that it seems to clear up with revs would point at lifters to me. Evo injectors are noisy but they don't clear up with RPM, just stay ticking faster.
Depending on the tick, its probably fine to leave it alone but you could pull the lifters and bleed them to see if that helps or possibly replace them.
If you go the replace route, do your research. I had a set of GSC Zero-Tick and they ticked like crazy. I had 2 different sets of stock ones and they ticked different amounts. I ended up just bleeding the "best" stock ones I had on hand and sticking with them. They make a little noise but are miles better than the GSC ones I had.
Another one you could look at is Topline I think it is. I have read good things here about them.
To close this, pull and bleed them first, there is a how to on this forum and you don't even need to remove the cams to do it.

You know how that goes though, other cars needing work done or just lazy lol.
Eww. That cam lobe looks nasty. What cams were those?
Yea, its getting to the end of the season up here so I'll probably add lifters to the maintenance list for the winter.
I have had my valve cover off a fair number of times and have never seen anything like that so I don't think that's it.

V1 of the GSC S2. could be the Manley springs got soft. have no idea
The autox courses are getting faster and in the past year I have been on the 8300rpm limit longer than previous years. 3 exhaust cams (heel/backside only) have this issue, its not scraped but more like 'hammered'
