Evo 4 front diff slack? Or normal?

With the front wheels in the air, i noticed that if I rotate the driver side wheel by hand (front right) the passenger side wheel grabs instantly and rotates. But if I rotate the passenger side wheel by hand, im able to get a few degrees of rotation before the driver side wheel catches and starts moving which is followed by a "clang" sound. These is no slop in the axles, and the transfer case fluid came out clean with no metal pieces. Car has OEM open diff. Is this normal, or is my transfer case on its way out?
